Today I got a small PB sent first class from NE that was just mailed on Friday!    I can't even get that fast of service for a letter to or from family in Chicago!

I just logged in to check on a book I mailed on Saturday from my home in RI.  It left my mailbox Saturday afternoon and is showing as delivered in MO this morning around 6:30am.  Wow!!!

wow, this month my PO is acting like a  for profit business with competition---  saying "Thank you for choosing to ship with us" at the end of each transaction with a customer and asking us to do  those online surveys too.

I don't know what it is about August, but I have noticed other years too that media mail just flies in August. Getting MM books about one day longer than priority would be. No complaints here!

I've sent books to people that tell me they've arrived BEFORE the date marked on the package!  Figure that one out...we must have a stupendous post office here...

JoAnne, I have received books that got to me before the date on the package too.  I used to think, "Wow, how did that happen?!" until I realized that if the sender puts the latest shipping date on their postage, but then they mail the book right away, if the book ships quick, it really can get to the receiver before the date on the postage.

According to PBS postage, you can choose your ship date that will show on the postage even if that isn't the day you mail the item.

I remember when, in the early 70s, my mother would mail me a letter from a very rural PO in Maryland in the afternoon, and I would receive it the very next morning on my USMC base in southern California, about 3,000 miles away.

But, when my aunt in Los Angeles would send me a letter, it would often take two weeks for it to go the 80 miles to my base. I guess they were still using those borax mule trains to deliver the mail. wink
