I am kinda new but have sent out alot of books and have never had any problems sending or recieving until now..I ordered a book on June 1st it was accepted and got email on the 6th from the sender saying she had to click "mailed" because of the timeline and would mail it on the 16th. Ok so now no email from sender after I sent her one days ago and no book..I am thinking she does not intend to follow through with my request for book. So, what do I do to cancel? Also, I thought you could not click on it if you were not sending it out on the time you say...Thank youenlightened

You can't cancel if she's already marked it mailed.  If she didn't mail the book, it will be marked lost by the system eventually.  If/when that happens, you will get your credit back and can reorder the book. If/when you do receive the book from this sender, be sure to fill out the survey and enter the postmarked date.  If this sender has a habit of mailing late, they will be contacted by PBS.

The 16th was only 5 days ago, and media mail usually takes longer than that.  You'll have to wait to either receive the book or have the system mark it lost if it is not received by the system deadline.

IIRC the requester cannot cancel a book order after the shipping label has been printed.  After the book is marked mailed, neither party can cancel the transaction without PBS intervention.

Otherwise, I agree with Leslie, there isn't much to be done other than wait for the book to arrive or go lost...whichever happens first.  PBS guidelines do say something about pm'ing members if you know you are going to mail late, and also warns that these individual arrangements to not change or ammend the lost date.

Also as it appears that she clicked that she mailed it on the 6th or so, it will go lost 26 days from that date and not 26 days from the 16th.   As it wasn't a WLed book, if it does go lost, it will turn up on your Reminder list if it does go lost.  They suggest you wait 2 weeks or so from the date she said she'd mail it until you reorder otherwise you might receive 2 copies.  Good luck.  Pat

Did she ask you if the 16th was ok to mail & you agreed to that date?  Or did she just send a PM stating that was what she was going to do?  Either way, you essentially agreed to the late mailing.  Either you agreed to her request, or you didn't tell her no (that it was unacceptable).  Therefore, TPTB would not consider it a mark against them.  They will take that all into consideration when reviewing the account.

Media mail does take longer.  So hopefully you will get it soon.  If not, then it will "go lost" and your credit will be returned.

Good luck!

Kellie

The system doesn't assume this at all, in fact even if an agreement was reached in a PM correctly, the automation will flag this account as a late mailer for this package when the postmark is entered and a reminder PM will be send. If the account is looked at, the Team can clearly see that the sender PMed the information without asking prior permission so they would definitely consider this a mark against the member's account.

Hopefully they did mail on the 16th and the book makes to you before the system action date. Remember that with the new receiving process, if there is a postmark on the book and it shows a late mailing, you would mark it as a problem and select Late Postmark from the options.
