I have a book I was going to list, I just looked and it doesn't have a ISBN anywhere.  When I put in the name of the book it does show on the sight as having no copies in the system.  How can I post this book????

The Title is  Payment on Death  by Donald Jay Korn.  The book I have looks just like the picture the systems has.

It does not say anything about being a ARC

He is probably the author.

Diane,

He is the author but I was wondering if he could also have published the book.

Bertie W,

If you can't find an ISBN on the book, then I strongly urge you NOT to post it on an entry with an ISBN.  Whoever requests the book from you is completely within their rights to RWAP the book for this even if in all other ways it is the book that they requested.  The picture on the other hand is completely worthless (it is entirely possible to post the picture of a hardback book for a paperback listing and have the picture editing team accept the picture non-the wiser, as PBS in no way guarantees the pictures on the site; and note that this is not to denegrate the picture editing volunteers in any way, it is simply a statement of fact).

Just to make sure that you have checked everywhere for the ISBN I have found it in all of the following places, the spine of the book, the back of the book, inside the back cover of the book, inside the front cover of the book, one the back of the flyleaf, & on the copyright page.  It is possible it may even be posted somewhere else so check thoroughly.  I will note that if the book is a hardback I have found this increases the chance that the recent publications may not have it printed anywhere on the book.

To post your book, click on the "Post Book" tabs from your account page.  Once there click on the "click here" link at the bottom right hand portion of the page (it is just below the misleading picture telling you where to find the ISBN, I say misleading because for the bookshelf I posted less than 1/4 of the books had the ISBN in this location, but I'm stubborn and persistent so it didn't stop me).

This will bring up a page with a bunch of boxes on it to enter the information for your book.  Enter the Title, the Author and make the pull down menu for the binding type (hardback, paperback, etc) correct before you do anything else.  These three things are the most important part of the entry.  After that it will ask about publisher, publication date, # of pages, the books size in inches, and a brief description.  General rule of thumb says that the more of this you enter the better the chances your book will be requested, but be honest, don't any info if you don't know it.  There is also a place to enter a picture of the cover of the book for the picture image; I believe it is my browser not the site, but I have had better luck waiting for a few days and then updating the picture rather than entering it here.

When you have entered everything, double check the entries and then click the "Post This Book" button, you will have entered your book into the system.

For future reference, this will create what is known as a Short-ISBN entry on the forums, but it is the correct way to do this.

The ISBN is also listed on the title page.  Have you checked there?

(Or it might be the copyright page.  It's on one of the pages towards the front of the book).

The book has no title page or copyright page or any thing like that.  I am not going to worry about listing it. Like I said it has one page with copyright  2007  by Donald Jay Korn.  Then the story starts.

Sounds like the title page may have been removed from your book Bertie.  With a copyright date of 2007, even most self published and small imprints have ISBN's.

Bertie W,

I just looked at the entries for that book, I won't say that it will actually go if posted (I have a bunch of one of's some went in the first week, and others still linger after a year), but I would note that it appears to be the only one in the system.  You could even place it in one of the one-of threads in the bazaar.

EDIT: Just realized that the book I was looking at was "Payable On Death." I suspect it is still the same book but don't know if the PBS entry here is incorrect or you just had a typo. Nonetheless there are still not copies currently in the system, that may even be because all the copies are like yours?

Denise L,

Most have ISBNs, but not all display the ISBN information, this can become especially true if it is a book that originated from a book club or if it was primarily sold through sources other than a large distributor (museums, churches, hardware stores, online orders, etc), or some other source where the UPC code wasn't used. I actually happen to be positive beyond a shadow of a doubt that 10 of the books I posted with Short-ISBN actually have an ISBN and even know what it was, but it was not displayed anywhere on or in the book.
