I know it's not technically PBS but there's a lot of crossover peeps here that I know would be able to answer ths question. I'm considering joining it b/c I have a bunch of CDs listed on TT that aren't moving and I noticed some Metallica CDs available on SACD that I'd like to get. My question is, I noticed there's a 49-cent charge for each request. Is this true? You have to add money to an account and all. How come there's not one here? (I'm not upset about that!!!) Just want to know if yes, indeed, there's that charge. It may make my decision whether to trade on there or not. (Honestly, spending 49-cents to get a CD I want and get rid of one hanging around would NOT bother me. I think it's more the hassle of putting money in my account, etc.) Would appreciate any answers, thanks a bunch!

Wait, Janelle, then why are you mailing out CDs? It could be quite obvious, I just don't get it. If you're mailing out CDs, getting points for them, what will you do with those points? Is it that you CAN transfer those points to PBS, just not the initial one? Please LMK, thanks! It is just weird that they make you add the extra $ there, but not on here. Maybe b/c it's cheaper to mail a CD anyway?

Like Janelle, I only unload cds at swapacd.  I  transfer the credits to swapadvd.

OK, then what is the credit ratio? I am kind of cool with doing it the "Janelle" way :-). I can load up some CDs and then transfer the credits to PBS (I don't do DVDs). How many CD credits transfer to a PBS credit? Thanks!

OK, well, I joined. I guess I'll see if I can get rid of anything and transfer it over here, thanks for the advice!

Oh, um, now apparently you cannot swap the credits until you've received at least 1 CD off the site. Which means paying. It says:

Before transfering credits from SwapaCD, you must have successfully received 1 CDs on your SwapaCD account.

~ Since I don't think I'm going to order any, maybe I'll just cancel everything out. Close the account or whatnot.

WHAT!!! There's a transaction fee too????????? are you serious? (Of course you are, I'm just expressing my surprise.) Please post back about this, b/c if that's true, I'm totally closing as well. Interesting, being a member for 1/2 an hour. Would also like to hear how to close an account, thanks!

ETA: Well, I sent them an email too to hopefully close my account and removed all my CDs from the "tower." Hope that does it.

Oh I wasn't implying anything about you taking your ball at all. I don't listen to CDs that much and saw it as a way to get more points for BOOKS. But with the fees and stuff (which I actually understand, and am just grateful they don't do them here), it doesn't make sense for me. I also doubt I have CDs that are too much hot property anyway. I'll just leave them on TT and if they go, they go, if not, it's not like they're not taking up much space. Anyway, thanks for all the input.

Good grief.  There's a transaction fee to buy things in the Kiosk here or to add PBS money.  That fee is not SaCD-specific.  You might not have run into it on this site, but it exists.

The 49 cent fee at SaCD for receiving a CD covers you in case of damage.  Unlike here, if I get a damaged CD there, I get my credit (and fee) back. Very quickly.  CDs are much more likely to break in transit.  Also, the site allows/encourages shipping them not in jewel cases.  This is usually at least 49 cents cheaper than shipping in the case.  It decreases the chance of a scratched-up CD from a mis-packed case, but does raise the chance of a snapped CD a bit.  I'd rather the $ go to SaCD than to postage, and it allows for insurance from not only PO problems but from other shipper's problems.

You could just spend .99 cents--50 cents transaction for buying SaCD money, and .49 cents to order 1 CD.  It's a .99 CD and lets you push credits around wherever you like.  Given the difference in cost of shipping a CD vs a book you'd quickly be ahead.

I wouldn't want a fee here b/c books are less likely to be damaged, to get damaged, and already too expensive to ship.

considering that the credits here are worth $3.45 or whatever in the BB - I would try to get a CD for a gift for someone so I could transfer the credits to PBS.  It's like buying a credit for 99 cents.  JMO

Janelle - did you actually try to transfer credits and weren't able to now? I can't see them changing that so you able to before and can't now.

I've transferred a few credits from here over to the other sites and set up WLs. I won't swap any CDs because all of the ones I have are on my MP3s and computer and I don't want to take them off. I didn't like the fee at first, but I like the idea of not having to hassle with the sender if the CD arrives with something wrong. Its also very cheap for a CD .49 fee + 3.45 PBS credit transferred = $3.94 CD cost.

I transferred a credit from SwapaCD YESTERDAY.  I have never ordered a CD from that site (I don't collect CDs anymore, I'm just getting rid of the ones I have) and as long as the one credit stays in the account there's no problem.  I've been a SwapaCD member since it started.

ladybugsbooks: I *just* got my freebie credit at SwapaDVD this week.  I've been a member since beta testing.  I didn't have very many DVDs and it seemed most of what I had wasn't in the DB anyway.  I picked up a few at a local rummage sale (one even WL'd!) last weekend and finally made it to 10!

Kayote, I still have four more DVDs to post as well.  Eventually my referrer will get her referral credit!  I do use the site to get DVDs, though - I just transfer the credits from here.

Do the credits transfer 1:1 between PBS, SwapaCD and SwapaDVD, or is there a different ratio?

1:1 between PBS and SaCD

2 DVD: 3 PBS (or SaCD) credits.

You can transfer I think between everywhere from SaDVD, and you can go between PBS/SaCD at SaCD.  I haven't figured out why they haven't made all transfers available from everywhere, but they haven't. You have to go to the other sites.
