I don't know if any of you are planning on getting the shot for the swine flu but we had a 7 year old little girl that died from it last week.  Fever spiked to over 103  on Monday and she was on Life support by Wed. at lunch. All of her organs had shut down.

As far as I know the child was in fine shape other than she was very petite.  So you might want to think about getting the shot for your children at least.  And our schools here seem to be having a record number of children out!

I do not have kids but am leery of this vaccine for a number of reasons...I feel they kinda rushed it  and also wayyyyyyy back in the 70's I had the original swine flu shot and had a reaction..I could not turn my neck AND light bothered me..I have since had flu shots no problems..I am not suppose to  get them due to the reaction but do as I am high risk....IF parts of the old swine flu vaccine are in this one..which is different strain  of flu that was around called swine flu in the 70's and all..I don't think I trust it..I am so sad about that littke girl ..how depressing..I also feel for her family...:(

My husband and I won't do flu shots. But we have considered it for our son. But leary..

Although, last week I was anti flu shots in the thread over in CMT and this week? I have THE worst flu of my life. Hoping to everything above my son and husband do not get this..  And I am thinking I should stay away from these threads, think I cursed myself being so gung ho :"I rarely get sick".

We had a death here (southern Florida) a week or so ago too. Women late 20's, pregnant. Died 48 hours after giving birth. So so sad.

I hope this swine flu stays far away from all of you and your families.. Stay healthy out there guys.

I got my flu shot today.  I was told you had to wait at least a couple weeks after regular flu shot to get swine flu shot..............as of now we don't have the swine flu vaccine in my area, but I will get the shot when it becomes available.  I have had 2 heart surgeries and have respiratory problems and I will listen to my doctor and do as he directs (which is get the shots).

Hi Sandy!

No, no, no, I am okay. I just have THE FLU.

NOT Swine Flu.

And thank you, I will be fine, just the worst longest lasting flu I can ever recall having. Ewwww. :)

Misty, I went just last week to my doctor to get the regular flu shot and he said anyone suffering from flu right now are more than likely suffering from H1N1. He said that is the only flu right now and it is rare to see any other type at this time. At least here in Texas. i'm not sure about other areas.

Take care of yourself and I hope you get well quickly.

They are just coming out with the H1N1 now.  I know we don't have it in my area yet (Central Illinois).  When I went for my regular flu shot Tuesday afternoon, I asked about it and was told it wasn't available yet.  I did see on the news that it was being introduced in certain areas first.  You are to wait at least a couple weeks between the regular flu shot and H1N1.

My kids don't get any shots, never have :) My husband is disabled so he does what the doc says and gets the flu shot. I dunno if he will get the H1N1 though. I don't/won't get it.

Okay... So I went to our pcp today. I am "initially" diagnosed with Swine Flu. Mainly because on top of the normal flu symptoms I am running around with I have a wicked chest cold, low oxygen level and serious problems walking/breathing.

They took some bloodwork and did some other crap, I wont know anything until they get the tests back, which they said can take awhile. But they gave me tamiflu and if respiratory gets any worse I have to go back on Monday.

:(

And the real bi$%h of it is they are wondering if I didnt catch the virus while we were at ER a few weeks back when my husband had a possible heart attack. There were over 15 people in waiting room with facemasks on. Of course, couldve gotten it really anywhere I guess. This BLOWS!

So once again, STUPID me for running my mouth about never ever getting sick! lol

Ellie: I wanted to thank you for the info. After reading that I called my doctors office and asked them, they told me to come in asap and get tests run. So had my neighbor run me up there, was pretty quick in and out (thank god). But I wouldve NEVER suspected or even thought to go see them if it werent for you. So thank you.

Oh Misty I'm so glad you went to the doctor. The Tamiflu will hopefully kick in quickly and get you well. There are so many swine flu cases going around here in the DFW area that it is scary. I have two sons with asthma that I worry about and two little grandsons under 5. There have been 10 deaths the last I heard in the past couple of weeks from it here. Two of them very close to my area. And not all of them had underlying health issues, so if any of us start showing symptoms we are getting to the doctor ASAP. I'm really glad you went and being treated for it.

i live in adams county in Ohio, so far there have been 3 cases of H1N1 in our schools. 2 in the seaman district

and 1 in peebles.  its a very scary thing. they are offering the vaccines in our area, but i'm still debating on getting it

for myself and my son. i got a flue shot back in 1994, and it made me so sick i missed 3 weeks of work, so i'm

definatley afraid of the H1N1. but personally, i think if you have had vaccinations before with no problems, it should be safe to

get this, and would be a good idea to do so.. GOD BLESS, AND MAY HE KEEP YOU ALL SAFE AND HEALTHY MY FRIENDS..

Please talk to your doctor about the H1N1 flu shot.  I work with a scientist he actually funds companies so they can find new medicines etc and one is working on a flu medicine like tamaflu.  He first told me back in August not get it and he was checking information.  It turns out that the H1N1 vaccine is not the same as what they are giving today.  Also it is made exactly as the reg flu shot but different strains are used.  He said for everyone to talk to their doctors and decide.  He said he is upset with the government because they have not squashed the stories about this being dangerous.  I plan on calling my doctor because I am in the high risk category having asthma.

My husband got the regular flu shot yesterday. His doctor never mentioned the other one. He is a high risk (lung disease).
