I had a wishlist book which the sender accepted and printed the label for, the book was never mark shipped. It is getting ready to time out tonight.

Will the sender's book go back into the system? I just don't want to wait on the same book again. Thanks.

If the sender doesn't mark the book mailed by the deadline, the transaction will be canceled, the book will be removed from the system and you'll go to your place in the WL line.

However, if they printed the label, I'd suggest you contact them letting them know that the transaction will be cancelled tonight if they don't mark the book mailed, just in case the person mailed the book but didn't mark it mailed. A LOT of members mail books without marking them mailed and this causes a lot of issues. Whenever I request a book and the sender prints the label but doesn't mark it mailed within a few days, I send a reminder PM on the day of the deadline just in case.

It's possible the sender mailed it today on their way to somewhere else and just hasn't been able to get on to the computer to mark it as mailed.  I know some people mark books as mailed before they go to the post office, but I am one of those superstitious people who refuse to mark books as mailed until I have actually done so.  Also, the system gives you two days after the "deadline" to mark it as mailed, so it still might get marked mailed tomorrow or Monday.

I do what DG does: if they've printed the label then I PM to see if they did mail it in an effort to avoid getting 2 copies.  You wouldn't have to give them a credit if it timed out and you ended up with 2-but I think at least a PM to aks is nice.

I had the same thing happen---WL book got posted to me, the label was printed, and then the request got canceled b/c it was not marked "mailed" by the deadline.   The label was printed the same day as when it was going to time out, so I don't know if the person just forgot to mark it mailed or just didn't mail it when they should have.

Is the sender new?  That makes a difference sometimes in what they know what to do by when.

What D.G. said.  PM if you are concerned!  Some members have recently posted frustration b/c they have difficulty remembering to mark books 'mailed' . . . a polite reminder may be appreciated  smiley

Yep, I would PM to remind them, or ask if they did mail it and forget. There seems to be a lot of that going around lately....people mailing books and forgetting to mark mailed, or people marking books mailed and then not mailing til 3 weeks later. Got one yesterday that was marked mailed on 4/8 and the metered sticker says it was mailed 4/27. No PM...the book was about to be lost in the system.

Yeah, I get that "things happen" and "not everyone lives for or at PBS" but it just seems like an awful lot of people can't follow through lately in one way or another. Then again, looking at the number of people who passed their driving test but still can't figure out how to signal, merge into traffic or even keep their vehicle in one lane, I shouldn't be too surprised I guess. kiss

It's interesting you posted this because I have a similar problem.  My question is, how can you tell if they printed the mailer?  Mine currently says:

"Sender has until XXXX on XXXX to mark this book mailed to you".  This person waited until the very last day to accept the order and now it's getting close to timing out on mailing it.  Why on earth would you accept an order and then not mail it?  I had one book recently that ended up in going through four people before the 5th sent the book and that member accepted it and marked it mailed with a day.  But, that was after I had waited over a month, due to all the various grace periods members are given before a book order is cancelled.

Kate when another member sends a book to you, it's noted on your Main Page.  Once the label has been printed, you no longer have a 'cancel' button, and after being marked mailed the book moves from the "Books You've Requested" tab to the "Books Mailed to Me" tab (or something similar, I don't currently have that tab open).
