I was surprised when I logged into my Account this morning and seen that the system had requested a book to me that was already on it's way to me in the mail! This book is no longer on my WishList (I already looked) I had to Cancel the order.. Why was this requested for me when I already had 1 on the way?!?! I never requested it again.... Any ideas?!?!

The book in the mail did have an AutoRequest but I took that off when the book was put accepted for me.. The book in the mail I did not try ot Cancel. I did Cancel the request that the system tried to give to me though because I did not want 2 copies of the same book!

Was the first copy marked mailed already by the first sender? The FIFO system only orders a second copy if 1)The book is not marked mailed by the deadline or 2) it goes lost in the system. You can look in your Transaction Archive and see what it says happened with the first order. Is it still showing in your tab of books on the way?

Another possibility would be that you had more than one version/ISBN of the same book WLed it the system had ordered another version for you. The system doesn't always remove other copies and I think it only does it when you mark it as received.

I don't think the system ever removes the other copies even if you mark a book as received. The system does on occassion ask if you want to remove other versions, but it is not consistant by any means.

I have never had it ask me that question, I've just always had to go in and manually remove the different versions.  Oh and to prevent having that second book sent to me I only put one of the versions (the one I want the most) on AR, all the others are on 48 hour hold.

I've never had it offer to remove other editions for me either.  I think like the others, if it shows the 1st one still enroute to you, than you probably had 2 versions on WL.

I had that happen once--the day it got lost in the mail or passed the mailing deadline (I forget which) the book automatically went on my wishlist as autorequest and was posted and marked mailed by another member while I slept (due to the time difference).  The first copy eventually came and now the 2nd copy is lost in the mail too, how's that for irony?  LOL  But this time the system acknowledged my receipt of the first one by the same title/isbn and didn't stick it back on my wishlist...

Hmmm, the last few books I've ordered that I had multiple verions of on my WL, the system has had a box pop up that says something to the effect of "We noticed that you have other copies of this book on your wish list.  Would you like us to remove them for you?" and the answer is automatically set to "yes" (I always change it to no until the book actually arrives, just in case).   If the system doesn't recognize a copy of the book as being the same, which oftentimes it doesn't for various reasons, then you wouldn't get that message.

Unfortunately, Amanda, that box doesn't always pop up. Not sure what causes the hit or miss behavior, but it doesn't always show up.
