Some of you commented on having a stack of books around your chair.  This is a picture of Marilyn's TBR Book Stack next to her chair.

There's about 30 books in the stack, plus 6 enroute, plus 2 requested.  I'm thinking 30 to 40 should keep her busy.

I'm wonder how many TBR books some of you other avid readers have stacked up waiting?

Dan, buy her a bookcase! :)

(my DH just sighs when he sees a pile of books just randomly laying around) ...  I keep mine in a linen closet ... its full ... 2 shelves TBR ..... and 4 shelves not even posted yet ......

Let me clarify.  I don't read much and I'm facilitating the flow of books for my wife.

Therefore, I'm not sure if a 30 to 40 book backlog is somewhat normal, or a sign of obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD).  :))

Are there any other avid readers who like to have that many books waiting to be read?  Maybe she's Abby Normal or something (part of a line from Young Frankenstein - 1974).

If she reads pretty fast, that's completely normal ... I read fast, between 3-5 average size books a week, so her pile might keep me in books for maybe 2  months ... my own TBR pile is several hundred now, which will keep me for most of the year if I don't order any more.

I count my TBR in # of bookshelves and try to ignore the boxes in the basement. (I was very displeased when I discovered them in December. I had thought all my books were unpacked when we moved. Apparently not.)

Given how little I read right now, my TBR is truely obnoxious.  Yet I came home with 7 more books from the sale I'm helping set up.  Well, at least 1 is for my SO, and another might be a dupe in which case it'll go back, and another will get read very quickly b/c I read comics before I sleep.  The others...yeah, no justification, other than one of them has been on my RL for a while as I debate. Cheaper at the sale!

Sara; I built her some beautiful oak bookshelves.  But they are filled with Hardcovers and the linen closet is filled with paperback keepers.  We keep the posted books in another closet.  Yeah, she is a fast reader somewhat like your pace.

Holey Moley!!  Did you see Deborah's TBR pile in the previous post?

I don't have to be concerned about this at all compared to that stack.

I just went and counted. I have 153 on my book shelf and about 20 more on the way. But I'm a boxer so with 20 coming in I have 20 going out. I read at least 5 books a week.

Rather conservative for a book enthusiast.  Personally, I decline to answer on the grounds I may incriminate myself.  I like to think I provide a valuable intergallactic service.  I'm sure space faring aliens can see my TBR from outer space, and use it as a navigation tool :-)

I have been posting in the TBR listing all the books that I have been getting recently from PBS, the $1 book store and various garage sales and such. My TBR list has 254 books on it. Yikes! My husband would be very happy if I only had 20 to 30 books waiting to be read. It helps that he has quite a few in his (very different) TBR pile.

I refuse to even think about it, LOL. I have books stacked all over the house. I know I've got a heck of a lot more than 40 TBR though because I just bought a lot of 60 chick lit books on eBay for a song  :) and I've already received nearly 100 books here. Even with how busy my shelf hs been, there's still been far more in than out.

I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 books in my TBR pile. Although they are all in bookshelves around the house.

Mine is more like Deborah's.  They are stacked and piled everywhere.  I have them "neatly" stacked in my bedroom, but they tend to lean and then fall over a lot.  I need more shelves, but I'd have to move all the stacks first.  I'm boxed in!  My TBR is 362, but not all that many are WL'd.

I would have a hard time taking photos of mine; there's about 600 books on my TBR and they are scattered on bookshelves in every room in the house (there are 7 bookshelves just in the living/dining room alone) except the bathroom--and there's even a bathroom book in there, sitting on the back of the toilet! LOL  While my bookshelves are sometimes double and triple stacked, I generally only have 2 books off the shelves at any given time--one paperback in my purse and another for reading at home. (Audiobooks are right on my computer, so I don't have to fiddle with storage space for those except the virtual kind of storage. LOL)

My TBR is big but by no means huge; I know folks who have literally thousands of books in their TBR stacks!

Ummm... zero?

I had two on the "pile" yesterday, but I finished the one I was reading the day before, started one from the pile yesterday night, finished it this morning, and now I'm about 3/4 done with the second one that was on the pile.

And I have one coming in the mail, plus two "waiting on member" books at the moment.

Probably time to head to Borders again...

I have 400+ right now. Most of them are in rubbermaids in the spare room/office. They are starting to pile up on my desk though. I ran out of rubbermaid space lol.

uhmmm. Are we supposed to also count audio book downloads in our TBR? Cuz.... that would change the number somewhat for me. But they don't take up much room except on my hard drive...

30 seems like a nice conservative number for someone who reads a lot. I might get sorta panicky if mine got that low.

OK, Deborah you win. I only have 122 books in my stack. I have completely covered up the front of our fireplace in our bedroom. My dh says I have until winter to read them all! very funny.
