So, after chatting with Angela the other day about the Kindle, I got really excited to get one.  I decided to start saving up for one.  I mentioned it to my husband last night and he looked at me in complete shock while silently pointing to the wall of completely packed bookshelves. He then asked me how many books were on my TBR list and I mumbled almost 300.  Well, he said he'd give me a dollar for every book off my shelf that I read and send on.  What a great deal!  I immediately took him up on it before he thought too hard about about how he screwed himself. Just think--I'll get paid to read books I wanted to read anyway and will get a Kindle out of the deal! Woo-hoo!

Not sure how many of you have people perplexed and aggravated about your book obsession, but it might be worth working a sweet deal. :)

That's the beauty of living alone, I can onl aggravate myself with my obsession, like when I don't get important things done because of "ONE MORE CHAPTER, then I'll do it."

While the idea of a Kindle seems great...I think it'll be more expensive.  I can't trade to kindle books when I'm done, seems like most of the paperback books..the kindle costs more the the book etc.. etc..  Until it becomes more cost effective I can't justify it.  If I traveled a lot for work maybe...but I dont!

I felt the same way when I first learned about Kindle, it seems really expensive.  First you have to pay a pretty penny for the system, and the books are more expensive than the paperbacks.  I can see spending 3 - $400 for a system if the books were like a dollar or two to download.

Yeah, I still don't do the important things because of reading. ha!

That's what I was worried about too, but Angela informed me that there are some websites where you can email the books to your Kindle, like the Ellora Cave one. And my library has ebooks available for free, so I'm going to check into that and see if they would work.

Maybe by the time I save up enough money the price will have gone down. I've heard several people say there are a couple of competitors now.

Actually the kindle editions are cheaper then the real books.  My husband surprised me with mine for my birthday, I didn't even ask for it!

But I love it!!!  I enjoy reading on it soo more much than reading a regular book (which before I got my kindle I would have never thought possible) and I seem to read faster on it.  Also, for me, it's fantastic to get the books immediately.  I buy ALOT of books new, I did before my kindle, every new release in a series that I read I buy the day it comes out.  Only problem was, there are no bookstores near me, the nearest one is 30 minutes away, and it has such a minimal selection that they normally don't even have the books that I go after.  So, to get the books instantly on my kindle is a HUGE plus for me.

Plus I already had several ebooks on my computer that I was able to just email to my kindle.  I probably wouldn't have gotten around to them for ALONG time because I hate to sit infront of the computer trying to read a book.

Virginia, that deal with your husband is AWESOME!!!  A dollar a book!!  Woo HOoo!!

Wow, your husband did a great job!  Yeah for him!

I like to buy the newest of a series as soon as it comes out too. I'm way too impatient.

I need to get some kind of jar made up for him to deposit his money in right away before he takes it back.

LOL, yep, I would too, he'll have to go around with a wallet that looks like a man that visits strip clubs with all the ones he'll be having to ante-up to you :-)

I haven't purchased a book since I joined PBS over a year ago...so anything over the cost of media mail is expensive to me.  $300 for a kindle is over 120 books I could mail..then add in the cost of downloads.  It sounds awesome and if I had disposable income I might to it but I just can't afford it...or justify it.

Yeah, the bookstore thing is a problem for me too.  I have a Borders about 15 minutes from my house, problem is, it's the least stocked one I've ever been to, especially for the para romance.  And I always buy the new editions to my series the day they come out.  So maybe it's not a half bad idea.  But then again, you can't swap for the cost of shipping with Kindle which saves you a ton in the long run, especially if you ship multiple books at once.

I don't think I will only use the Kindle, I'll probably still buy some so I can trade on here. I buy a lot of books on Ebay and Craigslist in bulk lots, so I'm sure I'll always do that. But I'm pretending this is free, guilt-free money so it's like I'm getting a Kindle for nothing!

I have a lot of book stores near...no used ones thought.   But even though I have a BN and a borders less than 5 miles away, I always ordered my books from Amazon or BN when they had a good special/coupon...at least when I purchased new books....why don't you guys do that?  That's what I never understood...free shipping, no tax...it's a good thing!

That is what I did do Marie.  I ordered all of my books from Amazon.  But I hated waiting on them, and then on top of that mail can't be delivered to my house, so I had to wait until I could get to the PO to even pick them up.

On top of that, I still have about 700 regular books here and probably about 1/2 of those are WL books, so I'm still able to trade on her often.  I try to trade mostly for the books not available on kindle now, but I still get several other books as well.

Yeah, I order a lot on Amazon and BAM too, but like you said, sometimes you just don't want to wait for them.

I have looked at the Kindle --but I hate that you can't trade them.
