I was going to post a 2005 book, but there was a tag attached, "ex-library book with stickers and discard stamp".   This doesn't seem quite fair to the rest of us who have the same book in near new condition.  Is this tag attached to the first book in line and will the poster remove this tag once their book is gone?  Will this tag discourage requestors?

More to the point, is there a way to report "tag abuse"?  I've seen "book condition" tags attached to other books also.

Unfortunately, the tag is attached to all the books with that ISBN.  But people are allowed to use tags however they want, so it isn't "tab abuse."  (I like the term, though!!)

You could certainly tag the book with your own tag.  I wouldn't use a condition tag ("book in lovely shape") because I do think condition tags are misleading, but something that expresses the fact that the library/discard stamp tag only applies to one copy of the book with that ISBN.

Anyone have any ideas for a short tag?

as more and more people use tags - those 'problem' tags will not be shown any more! So tag the book with useful search items!

How does the tag disappear as more and more people use tags?

Eventually, it will only show the top 15 tags for each book, so the tags that people only use for personal stuff will not show.  You will always be able to see your own tags, though.

Someone enlightened me on this subject when I was a new member. I was so excited to tag all my books regarding condition, because I didn't realize it would should show up throughout the system. I wanted to do it also for my own knowledge.

Someone was very nice to suggest I have a code of my own, a combo of numbers and/ or letters that jog my memory, but won't confuse the other members. it worked. Even when I see a tag that doesn't mean to make sense, I ignore it because I know it's someone's code.

But ideally the tag is used to highlight something about the book that would apply to all the copies.

One needn't use codes, unless you want to of course. :>)

Per the help center the tags can be used for your personal use in anyway you like.

I was just about to post on this. I was hoping there was a way for people to tag books for their own personal viewing and community tags relating to the actual book. Then, when someone tags a book about the condition of the one they have to offer, they can see it for a reminder along with tags that other people have put out about the subject matter, length, etc.

Stacy, there IS a way to do that - we just all need to be more diligent about tagging our books with "community" tags (which will stick to the book since they'll be repeated), and the "personal" tags will start to be hidden (since they won't be used as often).

It just takes some time and effort, but I think we can get there!

I have only tagged the books on my reminder list and yes, all of those books have personal tags. I tagged them all in anticipation of the reminder list being combined with the wish list when the new changes occur.

I wish there were an option  to turn  off tags period.
