Taily crochets lap blanket for ill people and we all kick in some form of money or gifts to cheer them.

Taily should certainly post in the I Wish thread. Just remember, do not ask for money, as that is against PBS rules.  She can ask for gifts, of course! I know many RAOKers would love to help.

This forum that you are in was actually taily's idea. This was made for her and I when we talked with Richard via the phone.  She doesn't ask for money, we volunteer to help that way if we have no craft skills. Money is used for the postage costs. There are a group of us that do it.

Hi Everyone!  Just a notice to let you know that if you know of  PBS member who is having a challenge in life you can nominate them to recieve a special afghan. Some recipients have been Nanaoftwo(breast cancer), Mrs. Blue ( Death of beloved Mr. Blue) and Dakkota (illness).  You can even nominate yourself,  Just post a topic here or PM me.  As soon as I can I will post photos in our photo gallery to show you "tailyghans" that have been sent out.  For those who would like to help by crocheting squares, lap sized afghans, mailing cards or small pick me up gifts to people who need a special hug from PBS friends please feel free to contact me and offer assistance.  We may be an online community but we can help support each other through tough times.  Come see me in PBS chat!

April, What a special person you are! There is not a crafty bone in my body, but if I can help in another way, please let me know!

For those who would like to help by crocheting squares

What size squares?  Any particular colors?  I don't crochet much anymore but when I do, I prefer to do afghan squares to donate.

I am not a crocheter, but I can knit.  how about some knitted squares  I have loads of small skeins of yarn that I can knit for you during this cold weather this winter, I believe we started a group of squares a few years ago and sent them to a gal on here, but she got sick or somthing that kept her from following through with the project.  Just let me know the size squares you would like.  I would be glad to help.  I also collect up small toys to send to the soldiers to give to children, if you could use some of them, I have quite a collection going there too. I would love to help ill children too.  I have a embroidery machine and could make small quilts with cartoon characters.   I am a grandma and love all the little kids, ( actually I am a great-grandma of one cute little boy too)    I also have a daughter named April.  LOL

Hm this is a good question!  I think maybe 8 inch squares? Or 10 inch?   Then I could join the squares toether?  In the past I have done 10 inch squares to make a twin sized cover it took about 18 i think for that so I would need 8 ten ich  squares for a tailyghan..I would think maybe I would need 6 eight in squares....What do you tyhink?

small quilts would be wonderful as well.  currently I do not have any children who have been nominated but perhaps only because people don't know they could nominate one.  I will spread the news!

actually I just read the post about a Christmas Angel.  Perhaps we could be angels for this family and send them small quilts and lapghans for the kids or little toys?

I know a lady that collects squares and makes them into afghans for soldiers as part of The Ships Project.  She uses 7 inch squares, either knitted or crocheted, and joins them (I don't know how many square she uses per 'ghan.)  Usually she gives us some suggestions regarding color schemes - she'll say she needs crayon brights, or nature colors (brown, tan green), or team colors affiliated with different sports teams.  Sometimes she even tells us to use specific Red Heart yarn colors.  I'll watch this thread for further instructions...

What an excellant idea!! I am sure April and I could do this also. I could join 7 inch squares and include them in the packages that I send to the soldiers. I would use any colors or themes of your choice. Let me know if you would be willing to send some. PM me if you want to participate.

I'm currently helping Taily with this project by crocheting squares for her to put together, but she told me 6" squares.  So I'm wondering...  Is anyone else still working on this for her?  I think we definitely should all be making the same size squares if they're going to Taily.  I don't care what size I do, I just think consistancy would make her life easier.  6", 7", 8", 10"...  What's it going to be???

any size squares will work as I will put them together according to size.  6 and12 inches would be easiet but I can also put toether strips from mile a minute patterns.  Please also remember to nominate people if you know someone who needs a tailyghan!
