Oh boy, the results are out on the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award semi finals (or whatever danged phase it is). This thread just popped up last night on Amazon.

Alright so is it just me or is there a certain reviewer who was very rude and out of line? I thought the reviews were supposed to be supportive and meant to help you understand what should be fixed.

I'm glad you made it! It's defiantly something to be proud about. I think who ever it is writing all these harsh reviews should try writing a novel and entering it in a contest. I don't think I'm going to enter any more contest. I'm pretty upset.

Continue reading and you'll see they feel this second review is so mean spirited they're going to report the mean reviewer to ABNA. And no, this review is not me. So far I haven't seen myself quoted (only a matter of time, I'm sure). cheeky

So she posts a screenshot of said awful review for all of us to see,

*scratches head*

What the heck is so awful, dreadful, terrible, mean and nasty about review #2?

Isn't that the point of these contests to let your work be seen and perhaps (gasp) critiqued.

I don't see it as mean.

No it isn't. I know of one reviewer in that group that has a lot of potential for being so blunt it makes me look like a pussycat, but as a whole everyone has tried their best to be fair.

I like that one. Oh my, the discussion's going to heat up. The reviewer who is most likely the one who reviewed on the nasty side has just joined the discussion...

Love the rejection letter!  I don't see anything wrong with the second critique -- they didn't couch it in a bunch of flowery prose, but got to the point politely.

I can only imagine the quality of some of these excerpts and I'm suprised that after the 1st 20, the reviewers didn't sink into profanity.

Reviewers are supposed to be "supportive"?  What nonsense!

The thread is a time suck, but oh so entertaining.  I was flabbergasted by some of things writers objected to.  "They say it's .... but don't tell me how to fix it" was especially jaw dropping.  For crying out loud, it's an anonymous REVIEW for a COMPETITION, not your creative writing instructor!
