ISBN 0816700354 - As I work my way through piles of Christmas books, I'm discovering a lot of great, or at least really good, books that I'd never heard of before. Tale of the Christmas Mouse is definitely among this year's surprise goodies.

In rhyme, a young boy tells the story of the Christmas Mouse, who lives under the floor of his house. The mouse prepares for Santa's arrival by cleaning and trimming the tree, then lets Santa in the door when he arrives. After he helps Santa fill the stockings, the mouse says goodbye to Santa and has a party for his friends.

Author and illustrator Judith Fringuello tells, and illustrates, a fun little holiday tale using only 60 different words - including words like a, and, the, I and is - to make this First-Start Easy Reader from Troll exactly what it claims to be: an easy reader. This makes this one a super book for beginners and it's a fun holiday story, too. While the front and back covers show full color images, the interior illustrations are black and white with red details and highlights and they're surprisingly attractive.
