Tall, Dark, and Texan
Tall Dark and Texan
Author: Jodi Thomas
Teagen McMurray would ride to hell and back to protect his land. He’'d certainly never felt that way about a woman. Not, at least, until Jessie Barton showed up with her three little girls, desperate for a place to stay. Suddenly he found himself proposing marriage, telling himself it was only to protect her and her children.

This book was just alright. I found it very tame and lacking in story. I would have liked to have more history or some more facts on Teagan's American Indian grandfather. It is not a bad book just not my type of book.

I loved the Whispering Mountain series - and Tall, Dark and Texan was excellent. Jodi Thomas books are some of my favorites. Strong men, strong women, romance, danger -- a great combination that Ms. Thomas does very well. Highly recommend all books in this series.

Tall, Dark, and Texan is part of a series by Jodi Thomas and I've loved everyone of them so far. Ms. Thomas is a very good writer. She keeps you interested and her characters are all unique. If you love historical stories of Americas past, you'll like these books. Teagan is the oldest of 4 kids who at the age of 13, I think it was, he and 2 brothers fought off their neighbors who were very eager to steel these kids of their heritage of land. Story takes place in Texas. These three brothers also are left with a infant sister to raise. Each one has their own story and each story is very good. You will have to read at least the first one to find out where their parents are and how they kept their land. Enjoy!

Of the first three books in this series (see below for listings), this is my favorite. Each of the McMurray men is strong and forceful; Teagen goes a step further with a thick layer of crustiness. Most men move out of his way rather than speak to this quiet man.

The story begins in 1856 and jobs for women are sparse and hard-to-find. After the death of her overbearing and drunk husband, Eli Barton, Jessica knows she must take her three children and run. Elis mother is wealthy and wants to give a home to the 3 girls without their mother.

Jessica has no family so leaving Chicago evolves to going to Whispering Mountain Ranch in Texas. Eli has been corresponding with Teagen McMurray for more than 10 years; Jessica thinks he will let her rest there for a couple of weeks as she decides what to do next.

An underwhelmed Teagen escorts the widow and her girls to his ranch. Jessica softens Teagens uneasiness by explaining that her relatives are coming from California for the 4 Bartons. As soon as Jessica arrives at the ranch, she feels that she has found home.

Then the girls get started winding Teagen around their little fingers. Their antics are beyond cute; five year-old Rose does a particularly good job of showing Teagen how dull his life had been before the 3 dynamos arrived.

I liked everything about this book; readers had already met some of the characters in previous books. Because of the pacing, we really get to see what influence the widow and her girls have on the gruff (and forbidding) Teagen. 5 stars

Teagen McMurray has spent his entire life fighting to keep and protect the land he inherited as a child. He has become hard and sullen and thinks there is no place in his life for love. The one thing he hates worse that land grabbers are liars. Enter Jessie Barton and her three precious daughters. With no place else to go, she has come to Whispering Mountain and to Teagen for help and refuge. Unknown to Teagen is the fact that she knows about him and his ranch is based on years of lies. Jessie can't afford to tell him the truth as she will lose everything. When the lies are finally revealed, can Teagen see past the lies and accept the love that Jessie and the girls hold for him?

Another wonderful story from Ms Thomas. She never fails to deliver a great read.
