Stephanie Laurens is the Master of Detail! She did not skimp on it in this book. There was so much that I was 'skip-skip-skipping' and then reading the story. This was the last story of the Cynster's. I think. Maybe she will write about the half brothers and sister of Ryder and include some of the Cynster's. I know she plans Books 2 and 3 of The Casebook of Barnaby Adair-he is married to a Cynster. After all of the skipping, I liked the story and the characters. Mary and Ryder are suited and there was a mystery to be solved. It was a good book!

OK, so I've read every one of the Cynster books, and they are so predictable and formulaic. The first one, "Devil's Bride" is still my favorite, because in that one she invented a new type of romance hero. But so many of the heroes and heroines in the later books repeated that same theme, with slight variations. And there is lots of plot padding and repetition. Yet there is something so addicting about these books I can't stop reading them. This one was pleasant and comforting. Not a keeper but I enjoyed it.

Funny and romantic. I thoroughly enjoyed this most recent "Cynster" novel. Even a bit of intrigue. My kind of romance novel.

I do love Stephanie Laurens; her flowery prose is unique and compelling. That said, I was disappointed in this book. While her characters are always interesting, this plot has been done before, especially by this genre's writers, ad nauseum. It brings to mind the old saying "There's nothing new under the sun", & this book proves it.
