My daughter was having some trouble with linking letters together to form words. She really wanted to start reading (at age 5), but even though she knew the sounds of the letters, linking them together was difficult for her. A friend of ours loaned us her copy of this book. What an improvement this book made! She's been starting to read words by herself, and she's only at lesson 50. I think that by the end of this book, she'll be reading pretty much anything that's put in front of her. I highly recommend this book!

This is a wonderful book, because it encourages you to spend time with your child. Even if you don't know where to start in helping your child learn to read, it gives step by step (word for word!) instructions on how to get your child to start pronouncing words. My daughter was reading on her own by the time we got half way through this book, and I believe it is why she is now a year ahead in reading level.
Some warnings, it can be tedious at time, and I only recommend for beginning readers, not for children who are already struggling.

A boon to homeschoolers and any parents who want to support their kids' learning, this book guides child and parent in a step-by-step approach to reading that is, in fact, easy and enjoyable. You and your child sit together and work through the completely scripted exercises in the book. No guessing, interpreting or stress is needed, just follow the text with your child. Your child will be reading (and comprehending what s/he reads) before you know it. Amazing and a true gift to parents and kids alike.

This is a great way to teach your child how to read. It is very easy and each lesson only takes about 15 minutes.

Also during each lesson, you teach your child to write the alphabet. By the end of this book, your child will be literate.
I really like the way the lessons focus on comprehension, not just identifying words.

I can't recommend this book enough! It is very user friendly and fun for the child to learn to read. I used this book three years ago with my daughter and am currently using it with my 4 (just about 5) year old son. He loves to do his lesson each day!

IF your child already knows letter sounds and letter recognition then this book is the best!!
Don't use this book until after they are ready to put the sounds together b/c the book will move
too fast for them. I've been amazed at how much my child is learning from just a few minutes of
teaching every day! This is the child that would not let me teach him to read and write. I highly
recommend this book.

I am a certified teacher with a K-12 Reading Certificate, and I love this book. I used it with 3 of my 4 children and it worked great! (Didn't work as well with my one child, but hey, nothing is perfect :-D. (I also used it to tutor some children. I have probably bought over 5 copies because I am constantly giving them away to desperate moms whose children just don't get it and they don't know what else to try. Can't say enough about this book!

Excellent book for teaching basics for how to read. It starts with the sounds that each letter makes and then combines them into simple words the child can read. It also introduces simple stories with a picutre and a sentence to encourage comprehension.

This book did not suit my needs to help my struggling reader learn to read. It uses a lot of symbols for different sounds when he needed to learn more about phonetics.

This book hasn't worked very well for any of my children. While the "say-it-fast" game may work for some children mine were bored and just wanted to get on with really learning how to read.

My kindergartener taught herself to read, and I'm not ready to teach my 3 year old yet. Time to share the book!
