a small rip (less than 1 inch) in the cover is OKAY-

so if the top of the back cover has the left corner cut off at a diagonal-  1" x 1/2"- that would still be postable, correct?

That is fine Adrienne. Some used book stores do that. The book is still postable.

As long as the amount missing is less than 1 square inch they are fine, so your sounds perfectly postable.
