Never read any of her books before.  Was looking at her Virgin River Series.  Can anyone tell me if they are good, soso,  or just plain suck? :)  Thanks for all of your help!

I liked the Virgin River books.  A small town full of ex-military men.  You really get an appreciation for the town and I really liked the characters.  There is a bit of action and romance as well.

It's not high literature, but it is enjoyable.

I love them.  Like mentioned above, they aren't what I would consider "deep" books, but are fun, easy reads.  I love her characters and storylines.  She also has another series called Grace Valley (I think).  I always buy her books as soon as they are out.

Thanks!
Nicole

They are pretty good stories. As the poster above said the town has a couple ex-military men that run the local tavern. The first three books have women coming into the town for one reason or another with problems that they work through and at the same time fall in love. The characters of the town are interesting, the action is fun and reality-based as opposed to over the top stuff.

to me the Grace Valley books read like the Mitford(jan karon)series but with a lot more drama. I think the Virgi River series is edgier more 'modern sounding' if that makes sense. also the doctors from grace valley show up quite often in VR series, esp the ob/gyn. I like them though the first is my favorite by far and Preacher in the 2nd is one of my fave guys (along with Jack) jack, mel, and preacher appear in all I think but as the series goes on some of the other characters you may not hear from again and many end up cliffhangers or continuing romances for the 'minor' characters. I happen to like the series but I'd definitely start at the beginig though you won't be lost if you do't read the Grace Valley trilogy..just know the doctors appear(John and June!)

I loved the first three in the Virgin River series...I ordered the next 3 and am on the waitlist for the 3 new ones coming out next year. My favorite was the first book, but I really enjoyed them all. It's a nice, down to earth kind of book-not a lot of unbelieveable drama and hysterics!

UM ok-how graphic are they?  I like a little spice in my romances.  I mean I don't need to read Lora Leigh graphic all the time.  But a little nookie is good.

I consider the Virgin River series sweet romances and  Preacher's story is still my fav. Mary, don't worry the love scenes are all classy, no where near LL's league. That's not Carr's style at all. The first 4 were to me the best in the series. I also love the Grace Valley series, only 3 in that series and they need to be read in order. I have all the books and have read them all and can't wait for the next ones to come up.

Mary there's some nookie but not overly graphic like Lora Leigh! I love Jack and Preacher(nope he's not a preacher but a big huge hunk!) and Preacher doesn't sleep around and is pretty darned close to being a rookie yet he catches on awfully quick LOL! The books I don't consider strictly romance-romance - there's stuff going on and some continues book to book. to me it's like visiting a favorite small town and seeing old friends/meeting new ones. Some deal with some tougher issues like rape, death, healing but the overall feeling isn't sad. ETA" the 3 in the Grace Valley are more women's fiction I'd say than the VR ones - the VR leans more on the romance and the sex is a bit more pronounced.

The first three in the VR series are on my keeper shelf.  LOVE ME SOME JACK!  The next 2 really didn't do it for me but the 6th book was much better.  I'm looking fwd to the next trilogy in this series that comes out in 2010 I believe.

A little spicy, but they aren't going to burn the roof off your mouth.  :)

I actually read book 2 first--with Preacher as the main character.  He's my favorite.  And I think I kept them on my keeper shelf too.

I didn't think you objected to a little spice.  Just wanted to give you an idea of what to expect.  :)

It is best if you read them in order since the characters recur throughout the series.  In fact, I have two of the Virgin River books on my TBR right now.  The last one I read was the Christmas one, but I have the next two in the series.

Thanks Susanna!! I started the Virgin River series with the 1st book and never got around to the 2nd and 3rd book from the series because our library only had the 1st book. After reading all the comments on "Preacher" from the Shelter Mountain (#2 in series) book, i'm dying to read it. I now have it on hold in our intralibrary loan system and can't wait for it to arrive. He sounds like just Hero i like!

yep Jack and Preacher are my faves of the men and they show up pretty much in al the books, esp Jack because Mel is a main character being a midwife and all.

I've read the first 2 books in the VR series. I enjoyed them. She also has books out called The Wedding Party & Blue Skies which I enjoyed also. Looking forward to reading her new books coming out.

Can someone tell me what the title is for the 5th book for the Virgin River Series?  I've got 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7.  And the first is on its way.  But I can't seem to place # 5.  Thanks for your help!

Second Chance Pass was my least favorite off all the VR books. That should be a Virtual Book Club book so I can vent as to y this book was not my fav and yes it was mainly Vanessa's fault, but Paul was a complete dunderhead sometimes. At times I wanted to smash their heads together like Moe did on the 3 stooges...lol.

I still dislike Paul and Vanni - I had trouble believing Paul had been military with how wimpy he seemed..and Vannie well nothing was likable about her IMO and still isn't one I like..and her friend in the later book buggedme too with her attitude..
