ISBN 0671636669 - A cute story for ages 8-12. The worst day in Dorrie Kimball's entire life - the day her best friend moved to Australia - cannot possibly get any worse. Australia isn't anything like across town, it's the other side of the world! Of course, her mother tells her that she'll make new friends, but her mother doesn't understand. To add insult to injury, the new neighbors move in almost as soon as Maureen's family has pulled out of the driveway! Then her day gets worse.

The neighbors have two boys, Conrad and Haskell. Not just any two boys, either. They're twins, and they're crazy. They walk a guinea pig on a leash, and when Sherman, Dorrie's dog, scares it, they send him a threatening anonymous note. To a dog! When school starts, one of the twins turns up in her class and Dorrie just knows this cannot be a good thing. Can they co-exist without driving each other crazy? And will Dorrie be able to make new friends?

The Amazon listing has Charles Carroll as the illustrator but my copy has no illustrations and the cover is done by Richard Williams. The cover might be the only negative thing I can think of - the dog on the cover in no way resembles the dog Dorrie describes in the book. Other than that, not a thing to complain about. This isn't a stand-out, superb book, but it's cute. Oh, and the vet bill of $7.00? Were vets really so affordable in 1974?!? Wish they were now!
