Looking for a reader of Terry Brooks to suggest if I should change the order I am reading right now. I could not find his Knight of The Word books so I picked up Armegeddon's Children. Should i stop and find The Word because it refers to the Knights etc in Armegeddon or should I go on to Elves of Cintra and read The Word ones when I can finally find them? I have read almost everything else he wrote but the Genesis series and the Word books.

I think it will make more sense to you if you read the three Word and the Void books (Running With the Demon, Knight of the Word, Angel Fire East) before you start on Armageddon's Children or The Elves of Cintra, since events in those more recent books (and the upcoming The Gypsy Morph) are based on what happened in the Word and the Void Trilogy.

OH MY!! I just finsihed Armegeddon's Children and talk about a cliffhanger! I am so torn because now i want to grab The Elves of Cintra to find out what happens...will Hawk survive his being thrown over the wall? Will Logan arrive in time? Who is invading? the drums? the lights? the...?????????? Tune in tomorrow for more adventures in Bat Land kind of ending.... I have never read a terry brooks novel that drops you right off such a very big cliff at the end! Yahoo! What a great ride that book was!!!! Must have more. but I am also afraid to read Elves before The Gypsy  Morph is in print because however will I survive a second cliffhanger with no book?

LOL! Yes, Elves ends with a cliffhanger too, so if you can't stand it, you'd better wait. :)

I loved the Word and the Void!  My mom who also loved Shannara couldn't get into it though... she enjoys dark fantasy, but when it gets set in the "real" world, it starts to creep her out!  :)

And yes, the Elves of Cintra further ups the ante for our heroes, leaving them hanging on that proverbial cliff once again... but on the bright side The Gypsy Morph is only about a month away, so you won't have to wait too long!  (And having read everything of Terry Brooks, I have a theory about how the elves and humans are going to survive... but I don't want to say anyting until after we've all had a chance to read it, just in case I'm right!)

I finished A Knight of the Word...it was a fast read and so far the most predictable plot in the series. But still so good! I also finished up the Cabinet of Curiosities by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. It took me a while to find one so I gave up and bought it for my e book reader. Now I am onto  Angle Fire in print, Riptide on my ebook reader and The Alchemyst on audio. Can't wait for the Gypsy Morph and I will be ready when it comes out. Hope it is available for my ebook reader.....

very good... now I am on to The Elves of Cintra but I am waiting a couple days to start it. I started Riptide by Preston but realized I read it a couple years ago and forgot to write it down. I am listening to The Alchemyst by Michael Scott.

Here is the link to the Shannara Reading Order.  For both new readers and returning.

www.terrybrooks.net/readingorder.html

I am working on building this set for my keeper shelf.  So far I am missing High Druid of Shannara:Tanequil and High Druid of Shannara:Straken.

I have started re-reading the series in Terry's Chronological Order. Which starts with Running with the Demon.  I am currently reading First King of Shannara.

Wendy, thanks for that reading order link.  I just started The Sword of Shannara and looked up the rest of his books and was totally confused.  That will help a lot.

Bumping this for fellow Shannara readers.  The reading order link is posted above somewhere.  It has helped me to build my series (I am now only one book away from completing my set), and to re-read them in Terry's Chronological Order.

I just finished The Gypsy Morph--great series! He did a great job of tying in the Shannara series with his modern fantasy "Word and the Void" series...it basically amounts to a prequel of Shannara. I have read some of the early Shannara books a long time ago and more recently read some of the later trilogies, but I need to go back and start over from the beginning I think and include the middle books too.

Sword of Shannara was one of the very first fantasy books I ever read. I read the first 6 books. I read Running With the Demon but then got sidetracked. It looks like I might need to go back and start these books again.

Did anyone like his other series?  The Magic Kindom of Landover?  I read a couple and just could not get into them.  However, the other one? two?  are fantastic.  I read them when they first came out.  I just purchased the first trilogy in hardback to put on my keep forever book shelf.  (That is why I am putting my other copy on my bookshelf here.  He is an excellent author.  I think that he is equal or maybe even better than J.R.R. Tolkein.
