I only have one book left in her Rizzoli series, wondering what people think about her non-series thrillers?  Not the romance ones, but the medical thrillers.  Are they as dark as the early Rizzoli books?  As good as them?  I liked them, but if these are as dark, I might take a little break first.

Just finished reading Vanish tonight, and loved the political aspects, especially the barely-disguised Haliburton.  LOL.  But the scary thing is, in this day and age, it could so easily be non-fiction....

It's been a while since I've read her, but I recall the medical thrillers being pretty much the same tone as the Rizzoli books.  I do really enjoy her as an author, but I have to be in the right mood for a medical thriller.

I'm not even entirely sure what a medical thriller is!  :-)

Medical thriller - In which the hero/heroine are doctors or medical personnels working to solve an expanding medical problem. Robin Cook, Tess Gerritsen, Michael Crichton, and Gary Braver are well-known authors of this subgenre. Nonfiction medical thrillers are also a subcategory, comprising works like The Hot Zone by Richard Preston.

So far, of the non-series, I've read Harvest, Life Support, and Bloodstream and loved them just as much as the Rizzoli/Isles series.

I'm looking forward to reading all the medical thrillers now!!  LeeAnn, her mysteries are great, albeit on the dark side.  She's a talented writer.

I have really enjoyed Territsen's medical thrillers.  Once I start one, I don't want to put it down.  I have never read one of her other books though, so I will be sure to see if I can find one after getting these good recommendations. I wish she wrote more often.

Tess Gerritsen is one of my favorite authors.  A friend of mine had me read The Surgeon, that was my intro to Tess Gerritsen.  I LOVED IT!  I couldn't put it down!  I went on to get all of the books!  They are a for sure KEEPER for me , and I am so excited to read the new book coming out on Sept 9, 08  (The Keepsake) !  If you havent read her books and feel a bit compelled to do so I would say go for it!  =)

Well I have apparantly done a "boo-boo!"  I picked up Mephisto on CD at the library and have been listening to it.  I kept feeling like I was missing a lot of background, but hadn't checked it on SYKM until just now after seeing this thread.  Figures that I'd pick up the sixth of six!  So how about the earlier ones?  Can I still enjoy them?  I'm loving this one--although as you said, it is dark!   But I like dark usually...

Absolutely! If you were going to get one (accidentally) out-of-order I think it's actually best to have gotten the last one, as opposed to #2 or #4 (for example). This way you can still go back and read the first 5 straight through in order.

I agree, by all means go back and read the others.  You'll know some stuff ahead of time, in terms of the various charactoers, but you'll probably forget most of it once you're half-way into the first book!  ;-)

I stumbled across Tess Gerritsen with Harvest.  I liked the book so much I sought out more and now have about 6 that are not of the Rizzoli series that all are equally as good or better.

FYI from TG's blog:

For two weeks only (9/11 - 9/25) you can download an e-book of THE SURGEON for free! If you have either a Kindle or a Sony E-reader, click on the links below to get your free e-copy of the first book in the Jane Rizzoli series:

Free Kindle e-book of THE SURGEON.

Free Sony e-book of THE SURGEON.

The offer expires at midnight September 25.

If you’ve never read me before, here’s your chance to give one of my thrillers a try — at no cost. And you’ll be starting off with the very first book in the Jane Rizzoli series — a great way to be introduced to Jane when she first appeared in the world of fiction!

You beat me to it BookMonkey!  I noticed the free book on the Sony site last night and thought I'd post about it here.  They also have "The Truth About Cheating" (non-fiction) free on Sony this week.

Just an FYI - if you have the Sony reader (don't know about the Kindle), check the site often.  I get a free book there just about once a week.

I have read quite a few of Tess Gerristen books. Her books are terrific. Mephisto Club and the Bone Garden are my favorites. Robin Cook is another good medical thriller author, only have a few of his left on my book shelf.   Michael Palmer and Leonard Goldberg are two good ones. I still have Palmers and maybe a few of Goldberg. Cook is coming out with a new one soon. Can't wait to get that one. Jeanne

I just love her books, have read all of the Rizzoli books, even the Keepsake. I will be posting that shortly, after a friend of mine reads it.

The only one of Tess Gerristen book I have left is "The Mephisto Club", that was my favorite.

Basically, as a medical thriller is has Maura Isles as the medical examiner and Rizzoli is the detective. Seven Books in this Series  in all. Now I am working on her none series, after I finished the 15 or so books, I have unread.

If interested in The Mephisto Club, PM me.

I am currently having a deal 2 for 1 on HBs & 3 for 1 on Paperbacks. Make sure if interested whether paperback or HB's. Anyone, interested PM me. But make sure to double check on paperback or HBs, can't mix. And HB double thick book, would still go for 1 for 1, because of postage cost.
