I posted a textbook that has a few notes and highlighting (which is allowed, per the PBS rules). It was requested, and as soon as I got the request I PM'd the person to make sure it was okay that it had the writing and highlighting. When I accepted it, I gave the furthest date out for mailiing, since I had to PM the member (okay, I always do that just because you never know what may come up, but still).

I'm rapidly approaching the date to mail, and I haven't heard from the member. What should I do?????

did you put a respond by date?

I would PM them again and let them know that if you do not hear from them that you will cancel the order.  I only say to do it this way because you are supposed to have their ok to send the book.

But then I can't list it again, because it'd go on to their WL, as mine was the only copy in the system. *sigh* So much for clearing room for a nursery.

that is true.....hopefully they will PM you back. before the deadline...oh and you do have 48 hours AFTER the deadline to mark it mailed before it is cancelled by the system

Mail it.  It is in allowable PBS condition.  If it were a WORKBOOK, then I would wait for the member to respond.

Like Leslie said you have 48hrs after the mail by date to mark it mailed.  I would send another PM saying you are mailng the book on x date since if you cancel it'll just offer it to them again.  Wait just a little longer and then mail it off.  You pm'd them and they didn't respond.  PBS will have a record of the PM and the fact that they didn't respond.  So if they complain about the markings you can respond with the fact that you did what was required and they never asked you to cancel the request.  You'll still get your credit when it's marked received.  Although you might consider using PBS dc on this one.

From the help center: (so I would cancel if I didn't hear back)

  • Exception: if it is a textbook or workbook, these are expected to have highlighting/underlining/writing
    • if you post a textbook/workbook, the condition must be described to the requestor in a Personal Message
    • AND the described condition MUST BE AGREED TO before the book is sent
    • This is the one of the ONLY two cases in which a PM exchange about a book is required before the book can be sent(the other is for cookbooks--see below).

Yes, don't send it without that agreement.

The requestor might have it on auto-request, and may be on vacation.  I'd go ahead and post it again, and PM again, if she doesn't respond.  School is starting soon -- maybe vacation is almost over :-)
