To help readers cover more ground, a fellow named Maurice Sagoff wrote a dandy book entitled Shrinklits: Seventy of the World's Towering Classics Cut Down to Size.  To give an example of how one of these summaries could help you, fellow bibliophiles, I quote, in its entirety, the Shrinklits' Beowulf:

                                     "Monster Grendel's tastes are plainish

                                     Breakfast?  Just a couple Danish."

Shrinklits sounds like a contemporary version of the old Classic Comics. They were my staple in H.S. English.

But I was so much older then...
