I received 15 books this week - and there is 7 in the mail to me.  That doesn't include the books that I bought at the library UBS

Me too Donna but the first step in any of these programs is admitting you have a problem.  I think most of us have entertained the idea that we might have a problem but none of us are ready to commit to that idea yet :)

This is a slow week for me.  I've only recieved 5 books....

When I begin to think about my book problem, I like to take a moment to consider all of the worse problems I could have. For instance, think how much worse it would be if I were a crackhead. Being addicted to books is not going to get me arrested. I do not have to steal to finance the book addiction, nor do I have to lie to family and friends about it because the evidence is right there on the shelves. See, it's all relative!

Problem solved, Donna! You can send me a check for the going rate of therapy in your area. ;-)

Add me to the list of those addicted, but as Valli said, there are far worse things to be addicted to!

Thank you Valli, I feel better.  It's funny. I used go thru Amazon looking for books to read and then I found PBS.  Now it's almost like the books find me.  It's amazing!

So, am I the only one here who's actually bought credits?  I did it once (and am contemplating doing it again because there are many books I want and no books are moving off my shelf), and my DH just shook his head.  He said, "I thought you joined that site to get books for FREE?!?!!?"  LOL!

I've never had to buy credits I have 30 right now), but I would if I was out.  It's certainly cheaper to buy credits than new books.  Unless you buy them at library UBS.  I've gotten numerous WL books for .25 - .50 each.

I bought credits through the PBS Kiosk ONCE, just a few weeks after I joined. That was before I learned that you can buy them cheaper from other PBS members in the Bazaar.

Then, back before credits jumped up to $3 something each, I bought... *wait for it*... 100 credits from someone for $2.20 so I could make sure I had plenty to last me for a "while." LOL

Well, I didn't end up needing quite THAT many, so I sold most of them at an $0.80 profit.

And then, when I was chosen to join the Swap a DVD beta and it was announced that  during the beta testing the credit transfer ratio would be 1:1, but would then change to 3:2, I transfered all the credits I had over to SADVD, then transfered them back to PBS when the change went into effect and I DOUBLED my credits that way. I ended up making a "profit" of over 40 credits, which I sold for $3 each. (Just call it a wise investment in the PBS stock market.)

Needless to say, between that and sending books out, I am definitely not in need of credits anymore. I usually have way more than I can use and sell them from time to time. I have 50 right now with 5 more on the way and have been thinking about selling 30 of them to get a little extra cash. But with so much competition to sell them in the bazaar I haven't done it yet.

You didn't know that Shelley?! There are always people selling credits for WAY less that you would normally pay for them at the Kiosk. I usually sell mine for $3 each. I think the kiosk price is $3.45 or something. Sometimes you can even find people selling them for around $2.80. I will never buy from the kiosk again! Just go to the Book Bazaar and there are always threads entitled "Selling Credits." There is even one long-running thread called "Looking to Buy / Sell Credits?"

However, if you are looking to buy some right now, I can sell you (or any of my HF buddies) up to 30 for $2.90 each. I love you all, so I will give a little discount!

I have bought credits before.  But then a friend gave me literally hundreds of books, many of which happened to be WL here, so I shored up my credits that way.  I always had a small shelf and never got a lot of orders, but now that my shelf has over 100 books, I get orders pretty regularly.  I must say, it's a lot more fun now!

I buy credits all the time, hangs head in shame. In fact, I'll probably do it in a minute, because I have a WL book that just came up, and no credits.

Jennifer - Thanks!  I'll keep that in mind. Right now DH has put a ban on all unnecessary spending.  Yes, he considers buying books "unnecessary spending" when I have about 30+ sitting on my bookshelf that need to be read.  [Rolls eyes.] I'm hoping my mom makes another donation. She reads like crazy, but she and I don't have similar tastes in books.  She gives me her used books to post here.  I'm sure people look at my bookshelf and wonder about what I read.  LOL!

I too would like to profess my need for the 12-step program... I've got 102 books on my TBR list and this week I'm immersed in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. In fact, I'm afraid I'm going to take a break to buy stock in Visine. TaTa all!

Gosh what a revelation about buying credits in the Book Bazaar!  I haven't had to buy any yet, but my credit supply has gotten pretty low from time to time.  Usually I have about 5 to 7 because I generally don't buy books just to post them so I have been able to manage fairly well.  I have thought about buying some but the price always seems kind of high, so this would be a great alternative.  I too am extremely impressed by Jennifer's financial wheeling and dealing in the area.  Quite outstanding!!

Another way to get credits, which I just discovered.  Yeah, everyone else probably already knows, but just in case there's someone here who is a relative newbie like me . . .

You can transfer credits to PBS from SwapADVD and SwapACD (and vice versa, of course)!  Cool!  I wasn't a member of either of those groups, but I jumped on SwapADVD to get rid of some exercise videos and kids movies I've had sitting around.  I don't want more DVDs, but I can always use credits for books!  I've already had 4 requests for DVDs.  Can't wait to transfer those credits!!!
