The book is actually being shipped to Hawaii, but I haven't had it marked since the 12th.  I am wondering if it might be lost.  It says on the way to California from Tennesse.  I have had some jounrey to California many times and it took two to three days from Tennessee.  Why would it take two weeks?

If the book was sent by media mail, it will probably go to Hawaii by ship.  The next scan will more than likely be in Hawaii.  Don't panic. Media mail books sent outside the US can take some time. I recently sent a book to Alaska and it said Enroute Federal Way, WA for two weeks before it was scanned in Anchorage.

Sounds like it is awaiting a ship out there in California. Or on the ship already.

Hawaii (Alaska & Puerto Rico) mail takes a bit longer.  You're still within the 'average' time for a package in/out of the lower 48, the PBS automated system even allows a few more days before marking those transactions lost.  It's not unusual for these to show up even the week after they are marked lost, even for those of us on the West Coast (and already closer).

Hawaii members are usually experienced with the time enroute and will not panic.  If it hasn't arrived by early June, feel free to pm the reciever and let her/him know you did mail on time...you'll probably receive a nice response.

I doubt it's lost.  Like others have said, the next scan will be when it arrives in Hawaii.  Mail to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico can be slow.  I've had books mailed to me from Alaska and they've taken about a month to get to me.

It goes to Hawaii by ship, and the average time is about 6 weeks.  It will probably go lost (per PBS) but will still eventually get there.  For that reason I always use DC for shipments going to AK, VI, APO/FPO, PR and HI.  Good luck.  Pat

It says on the way to California from Tennesse.

Actually, I think it says it has reached California, but is still en route. It hasn't been scanned anywhere else yet, which makes sense since it won't be scanned again until it arrives in Hawaii.

I always send via First Class when sending something to Hawaii.  Media Mail, as mentioned, goes by boat so it takes a while.

This is exactly how a book going to Hawaii should look. It was scanned in California and is now on its way to Hawaii. The book won't be scanned for a while after it leaves California because it can often take a while to get to its destination when going by boat. Perfectly normal scanning history.

I have sent a number of book packages to HI from FL via media mail--- they ALL took 4 weeks from here.

I have a package on its way to HI from FL right now. I mailed it 5/3 & estimated delivery is 6/6. I am hoping it shows up in the next week or so. I mailed very quickly to avoid a delay on my end, but the recipient is used to MM taking a while.

Update - 6/1 books to HI marked received today.

Speaking as someone who lives in the VI, I'm sure Media mail takes a while to reach HI.  The person you might check with is the person who is receiving the book(s).  He/she will probably know exactly how long media mail to HI tends to take!
