I loved this book. Was a very interesting read to me particularly because the Pope announced his resignation during the time I was reading this novel - so it put a edge on the book. I like Berry's Cotton Malone series alot and this to me wasnt a let down at all as a stand alone novel. If you're too attached to Cotton and those characters you may not like it, but if judging it based as a stand alone it was a good read. One that will stay on my shelf!

Unlike other Steve Berry books I've read, The Third Secret seemed muddy in plot development and execution, and sloppy in its writing style. I didn't object to the concepts--brutal, cutthroat Church politics might be expected in light of the great power and influence that were at stake in the story. Expediency, not faith, divine revelation, or the good of the Church, often really has dictated dogma. But the "secret" and its expected aftermath just weren't believable, nor did the characters ring true, with stereotypical bad guys and naive-but-idealistic good guys. Overall a rather disappointing book.
