This was a great book!!! A strong female character recalls a tale of when she was a rookie cop. Very suspenseful and well written.
Louis Kincaid's girl friend, Detective Joette (Joe) Frye tells Louis of her beginnings as a female police officer in a small town in Michigan. As a female officer on a force of male officers not use to a woman police officer, Joe is given the assignments that are insignificant while an unimaginable brutal murder case of young women unravels. Joe becomes the murderer's next chosen opponent as the plot thickens. I loved the book and could hardly put it down. This is a very suspensful lady detective tale you don't want to miss!
Exciting book! Kept me turning the pages all night and into the wee hours of the morning! If you have never read anything by P.J.Parrish, make this your first.
The only female detective n the Miami PD's Homicide division, Joe Frye has memories that haunt her, and a past that not even her lover, detective Louis Kincaid, truly knows. It began when Joe was an ambitious rookie cop in a small Michigan town called Echo Bay.
The bones found in the woods were the first clue in a string of unimaginably brutal murders of young women. Plunged into a heated investigation -- and caught between the dictates of a reluctant local sheriff and the state police - Joe soon uncovers the chilling truth: In the dead of winter in the Michigan woods, she must face down a predator who has chosen her a worthy opponent - or become his next victim.
Fast moving and keeps you guessing. VERY good.

This is an epic about our Louis girlfriend Detective recounting the story of her rookie years in Michigan. The murder has many twists and turn that are truly original. If you like "who did it" books, you will love this one!
I have read all of the P J Parrish books and I have loved every one of them. A Thousand Bones is a thriller that you can't put down until you are finished.
A page turner. A good mix of mystery and thrill with a group of characters to relate to very easily. Joe, the main character is very likable and a smart cookie. She has to prove herself to everyone around her and has to go thru hell to do it.
This is a very well written thriller, hard to put down
This book is a fantastic page turner! Well written and much suspense. Joette (Joe) is the first women on the small town police force and has to put up with being out of the "good old boys" circle on the most explosive crime that the small town has ever seen. The daughter of a female police officer, Joe has many keen insights and the ability to link the clues to a deadly serial killer that has been running loose in the area. The killer relives parts of his tragic and abusive childhood each time he kills. The killer thought he could get away with his crimes for many years but did not count on Joe and her ability go the extra mile to link the evidence against him. Too bad the local police discount Joe and her insight--Joe finds herself a target of the killer after linking his Native American heritiage and local Indian lore to explain the strange tree carvings left at each killing site. Excellent read...one that makes you stay up all night to read it.
Very, very good plot....written in the style of Michael Prescott.
Good book, easy reading. Keeps your attention!
Parrish never disappoints. Eight books in and she still keeps you guessing.
