...and you do NOT want to miss this party. I just received a PM from Genie stating that she is coming to the National Book Festival in DC on August 30. And, as I recall, our wonderful mother-daughter team (Linda and Kelly) is planning to attend as well (possibly with granddaughter?). And, of course, yours truly will be there. So, the question is -- where will you be? And if not at the Book Festival (who wouldn't want to come to DC in August), why not?

I can't promise to arrange a chocolate fountain (where's Christa when I need her?) but I have no doubt there will be chocolate and wine aplenty. So...chocolate, wine, and books...need I say more?

[Oh, but of course I will.]

Also, my guest room is available (unless my mom joins us in which case there's a pull-out sofa and plenty of floor space)...and there's always our lawn where you can pitch a tent if you do not want cats clawing (oops, I mean cats clawing) you at unreasonable (or reasonable) hours.*

*My daughter, who apparently and surprisingly listened to me - occasionally - as a teen, insists that I should not let online friends come to our house. But I have assured her that HF Forum folks are friendly, non-criminal sorts -- so if you are not a friendly, non-criminal sort, please stay elsewhere.

So...make your plans now to BE AT THE NATIONAL BOOK FESTIVAL ON AUGUST 30...we are having a party!

Really, folks!!  Chocolate, wine, books, and HF Forum friends -- what more could you want (well, except a plane, bus, train, or winning million dollar lottery ticket)??  It's gonna be fun...so make your plans now to join the party -- the more, the merrier.

Oh...did I mention chocolate, wine, and books (NSFW)?

Bumping again for the lollygaggers and slackers. The book festival is in one month -- there's still time to make plans but the clock's ticking. We're going to have lots of fun -- and if you're not there, we're going to talk about you.

I would love to come, but must be in Philly then for my brother's birthday party...but have some wine for me. And then have some more wine for me. And some more, just for good measure.

All y'all have fun, raise a toast to me, and geek out over Sandra Day O'Connor for me.

Linda & I were starting to finalize plans to attend ... and were down to deciding on whether to fly or drive. BUT, yesterday morning, Mom caught her toe in a loop of garden hose and fell hard on her left hip on her front porch.

Three pelvic fractures - painful as all get out, but no surgery indicated (actually there isn't a surgical option for these kinds of fractures). NO hip fractures for which we are very grateful. Mom has a painful road to recovery ahead of her, but the drugs are good, her attitude is strong and her independence knows no bounds!

We were starting to really look forward to being in DC for the Festival and spending time with our PBS friends ... we'll just have to try again next year.

Kelly

Oh no, Kelly!!!! Poor Linda....but she is fortunate that there is no hip fx. Keep us posted on her progress.

I cannot attend because a very dear friend is battling the strangest form of CA I've ever heard of ( Lobular - with lumps all over her body but primarily under her lower eyelids affecting her vision) and she is starting radiation on Monday - then comes the chemo. This woman is 82 but tough as nails. I do need to be here for her though. This is actually a form of breast cancer.......

Gosh, some reminders here of how life can turn on a dime.  Hugs to Linda - wishing you a speedy recovery and lots of good books and cool mint juleps (insert your favorite drink) to keep your mind off of the pain.  And blessings to you Jeanne for being there for your friend.

As for DC, I will get there one of these years and I sure hope to see some pictures posted!

Wow -- those garden hoses are dangerous. Linda, sending you best wishes for a smooth and speedy recovery. But your timing leaves much to be desired. I was so looking forward to partying with the Linda-Kelly team -- I'll have to indulge in extra portions of wine and chocolate in your honor.

Jeanne -- sorry to hear about your friend -- she is lucky to have you there though we will miss having you here. I will have extra wine and chocolate in your honor as well.

I hope you are feeling better soon Linda!  Jeanne I will send my best wishes and prayers to your friend.  Thank goodness that's one problem I haven't had to deal with (so far).

Genie and I are making our plans. This is what the rest of you are missing: what the rest of you are missing.

(it's not too late...six days left to make arrangements.)

Hi, PBS friends - I'm having trouble posting and apologize for the empty post.  I would love to blame either the "pain" or the drugs, but it is just my usual problem with things electronic.  I do appreciate the good wishes from everyone, and am sorry to be missing the book festival.  I'm getting around with a cane; Kelly takes good care of me - runs errands, waters the flowers, etc.  I spend my time reading.  Looking forward to the book festival next year.

Linda

Thank you, Deb, for the wonderful day! Your company was the highlight of the show, but I also enjoyed the interview with Doris Kearns Goodwin and several of the lectures, especially the one by Ishmael Beah.

I hope to be able to do this again with more PBS friends!

Wow -- my posts keep disappearing, but I'll try again.

First off, Genie, you're so sweet -- and lots of fun. We did indeed have a wonderful day together and the rest of you should be very jealous. You're all invited to join the party next year -- the more chocolate you bring, the more welcome you are -- so save the date!!!
