I don't read many Harlequins anymore but have to say that the "horse" theme really attracted me.
The hero, simply marvelous. The heroine, stunning. Very well written and sticks to the gamplan of boy-meets-girl, boy dislikes girl but is attracted, girl is rejecting boy but is attracted and then wham! Chemistry!
From the inside cover: " 'You're pretty tough under that easy going act of yours, aren't you, Chad?'
He laughed. 'It's no act, honey. I have a pretty laid back nature unless I get riled or crossed. But you've got to be tough in this business. The minute you go soft, you go under.' He looked at Thunderbolt again. 'If need be, you cut your losses.'
'But you're dealing with living creatures, not disposable merchandise,' Emily told him.
'I don't let myself get tangled up emotionally with my stock.' He paused. 'Matter of fact, I don't want to get emotionally involved with anything or anybody right now. I want you to understand that, Emily.'
She nodded, understanding perfectly. He'd searched her out to tell her this specifically. 'Then you'd beter tone down your custom of kissing certain women when your horses win, mister,' she replied. 'Some might get the wrong idea...' "
