Stunning, electric art criticism. Calasso seems to have read everything, and he brings his fascinating voice and piercing eye to that last gasp of the baroque, G. B. Tiepolo. The central section, on Tiepolo's etchings, is especially enthralling, and one wished that the publishers had included many more larger and clearer illustrations, especially of the less well-known graphic work. Fairly high-octane art history, but a must for anyone who loves Tiepolo.
