I am frustrated with the book browser feature. Even after selecting my genre and refining the search to include only posted books I get pages and pages of books to buy from paperbackswap or amazon. What am I doing wrong??? The last search I did had over 5,000 results and at least the first 1500 were all books that could not be requested. PLease offer any advice because I really don't think I am that thick skulled. Thanks

I don't use the book browser feature, so I can't help there.

I always use the 'advanced search' feature, select the binding type I'm looking for, type in the title and choose 'posted books'. It seems to work just fine.  I just searched for The Memory Keeper's Daughter and it brought up 9 different books, all available for ordering now.

true, but I don't have a specific title in mind (all of the books I know I want are on my wishlist) so I am just browsing

I think you are getting ORDER from Paperback swap and thinking that means BUY from.

Normally you'll get a button that says "Order From Paperback Swap" and that means you can order it from a member of PBS.

You'll also get a "Order from Amazon" button - that means you can choose to order if from Amazon if you wish.

There MIGHT also be a button that says, "BUY from Paperback Swap".  That means it is available to buy from here if you choose.

Sometimes you get all three.

When they first changed these buttons people where thinking that ORDER from was the same as BUY from.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm....

OK, I just tried the advanced search feature again, without using a title.

I selected Sci Fi and Fantasy from the genre drop down menu, narrowed that to just Fantasy, chose the paperback option and clicked on 'posted books'.  At that point, I was able to narrow the search even more and chose Arthurian from the drop down menu.  I was given 53 results available for ordering.

Maybe you'll have better results with the genres you are interested in.  It might take a little longer to get to the posted titles, but hopefully, it's better than coming up with thousands of results that you can't order now.  How frustrating for you!

Cozette - you are absolutely right. I was looking at the "order" button and thinking that was the same as buying.

And Jo L. - that is a good search tip nontheless

I guess I am that thick!

:)

Thanks!

How did I know this??  LOL

I'm a long time member and I thought the same thing for about 1/2 a day until I figured it out.

If you are looking for new reading materials using the topic specific forums at the bottom of the list to ask for ideas can also be really helpful.

Cozette...thank you so much for pointing out  the "order" button.  I thought it meant "buy" also.

Sometimes I'll look at the FABIL (Find a Book I'll Like)  tab on this site to see what it recommends for me.  It's under the tab MY Account and then My Lists.
