This is a continuation of the Dabney saga of southern Mississippi: the same setting as Tap Roots. Set in the 1893-94 period, the family businesses are in conflict with northern capitalism; it is a fight for survival. It also introduces the Cuban revolution, that is obviously to be the subject of a future novel. . It is unfortunate that this book (and its author) has fallen into obscurity as it is a rival to the great novels of the post Civil War period.
