Greetings all,

I haven't been around the forums in a while, and wondered, for a start, if you guys would give me your opinions (or link me to an existing thread that serves the purpose ~ I searched a couple ways and didn't come up with exactly what I am looking for).

Could you list your top 5 series (or stand alone books, if you think they are worth mentioning).

My favorites include:

  • the Night Huntress (Cat and Bones) - Jeaniene Frost*
  • Cassandra Palmer - Karen Chance*
  • Black Dagger Brotherhood - JR Ward*
  • the early books in the Anita Blake series - LK Hamilton
  • Sookie Stackhouse - Charlaine Harris (although this one is waning for me)
  • Mercy Thompson - Patricia Briggs*
  • the Dresden Files - Jim Butcher*
  • Connor Grey series - Mark Del Franco

*Probably my favorites, although it is hard to say definitely. ...The Anita Blakes would be in there if they had stayed like they were written in the first 4-6.

Hey Angie,

Here are my top ones other than the ones you already listed cause most of those hit my top 10 ; )

  • Kim Harrison's Hollows Series
  • Karen Marie Monings Fever Series
  • Chloe Neills Chicagoland Vampires Series
  • Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectroate Series
  • Faith Hunters Jane Yellow Rock Series
  • Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels Series

Karen Chances other Midnight Daughters Series is good too, as is J R Wards Fallen Angels Series, and I like Patrica Briggs Alpha and Omega spin off.  My favorite of the ones you listed and the ones I listed though would be Kim Harrison's Hollows Series.

I've yet to read J R Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood I didn't want to start another romance seires, and I have the first in the Mark Del Franco seires but haven't read it yet.  I've also only gotten through the first two Dresden Files but I have them, only just discoverd them this year.

Thanks for the responses!  Most of these are unknown to me, so it gives me something to look for.  I have tried to read the Hollows series, but I can't get through the first book, and I really am not sure why.  I am starting to wonder if I skipped to the second, if it would help, because, in theory, I should like them.

Jennifer Estep's Assasin series.

Kate Daniels is the best, but I like their The Edge series too.

And for a little humor, Molly Harper's Nice Girls series.

OMG Emily I had no idea that Seanan McGuire was Mira Grant.  I do however think that explains why I didn't like feed.  I've had a hard time getting into the Toby Daye Seires too.  Hum see thats why I hate when authors write under many different pen names.

Shelley Laurenston/G A Aiken -  All of her books!  I always bust a gut when reading her stuff. LOVE her!

Kresley Cole -IAD  Love her arrogant men and kick-ass chicks and she's hilarious, too.

Gena Showalter - LOTU & Alien Huntress  She is outrageously funny and her books are sexy as Hell.

Kim Harrison - The Hollows  Jinx is the bomb and I can't wait to see if Rachel and Trent hook up. Gripping books.

J R Ward - BDB OMG they are some sexy males!  Waiting for Lover At Last is killing me. HOT

Ilona Andrews - Kate Daniels  Their blend of action and humor is perfect!  They even have a little of the romance I crave.  I love all their books.

There's no way I can list only five, so since some of my favorites were listed by other people, here are some additional series that I love:

Persephone Alcmedi - Linda Robertson (witches)

Anna Strong - Jeanne C. Stein (vampires)

Raine Benares - Lisa Shearin (lots of supernatural species)

Lupi - Eileen Wilks (werewolves)

Alex Craft - Kalayna Price (witches)

H&W Investigations - Jess Haines (werewolves/vampires)

Mortal Instruments - Cassandra Clare (magic)

Strange Angels - Lili St. Crowe (vampires)
