Helpful Score: 1
The stories as told by the main executives from this company that survived and the journey toward rebuilding for the families and employees. The author (a college friend of the subject) does a fine job of allowing the head executives to tell their stories from the first minutes of the attacks to the point where the book ends a year or so later. However I do question the objectivity of the book itself as it cast the main players of the firm in a positive light that they may not necessarily deserve. There is almost nothing from the families of the rank and file whose paychecks were cut off a week or so after the attacks. There is nothing negative about the firm and their handling of this situation at all which was questionable. But read it although consider the source and the one-sided portrayals.

Everyone knows the basic story of 9/11, however this book opens our eyes to the very difficult situation of those left behind, specifically Howard Lutnick, president of Cantor Fitzgerald, who lost over 700 employees that day. He survived due to a twist of fate. Truly engaging and fascinating portrait of a man and the ultimate challenge of his leadership abilities.

This was a quick, very emotional read. Although it does look to put Cantor Fitzgerald in a positive light, I believe it's correct to do so after reading this book.

Howard Lutnick faced loss, hearbreak, devastation, and choices that, hopefully, none of us will ever have to endure. I admire him for his courage, feel for his personal losses, and congratulate him on keeping his company (and, in turn, the families of those that were lost) together.

A really good read.

Good quick read Seems a bit biased since the author is a college friend of the CEO. Not alot of comment about the negative situations that cutting off the paychecks of the yet to be confirmed victims did to the image of the firm throughout the world. Much comment about the stress to rebuild in a week without the technology and the efforts put forth by the managers. Would have liked to hear more from the lower level employees.
