Does anyone have suggestions on books where the hero is a cop or in law enforcement? No tortured soul. Can't read military/ex-military heroes 'cause my son has been to Iraq and whenever I see or hear about a soldier I start bawling:(

I'm used to reading paranormal/urban fantasy (love vampires, lol.), but want to read something different. Agressive (handcuffs)... I'm starting to blush.

No wimpy or weak lady though. Wow... Am I asking to much or what!

Thanks!

Leslie, try Lyric's Cop by Jory Strong. Agressive cop, Strong leading lady. Very Hot! It's WL'd, but worth it.

Looks good!  I'll check it out, thanks:)

I was looking through the Blaze books, but looks like I have to do a lot of looking, lol. Some of the covers are putting me in a trance, steering me off course...

I liked Lyric's Cop, Cady's Cowboy, and Calista's Men by Jory Strong..one of Calista's men is a cop.

I think Linda Howard's has some cops but dont' know if they're ex-military or not - Open Season was really good once I got past the short intro..ended up having some funny scenes. there's another one that comes before All the Queen's Men where the guy's a cop in New Orleans - maybe someone can remember the title but All the Queen's Men is CIA(and the CIA guy is in this other book too but not much miltary stuff like in Queen's Men and it's only briefly mentioned in that one)

Here is the one Susanna mentioned - Kill and Tell by Linda Howard. This is a good story set in New Orleans- he's a detective, she's a nurse down there to claim her estranged father's body. It introduces the undercover guy in All the Queen's Men. Both good books!

Susan Donovan's Take A Chance On Me and Knock Me Off Me Feet have cops in them. Not beat cops, these are investigators, but both stories were funny and had some really great tender moments. Christie Craig's Divorced, Desperate and Dating and Divorced, Desperate and Delicious both have cops in them and are funny as well, they are part of trilogy and the 3rd one is about to come out. Pamela Clare's Hard Evidence, he is an FBI agent and her books are just plain hawt! Linda Howard's Mr. Perfect he is a sexy cop, man do I want him for my neighbor...sigh. One of my favs of hers! Victoria Dahl's Talk Me Down, he is a sheriff and she is an erotic book writer and the book is erotic in itself and pretty spicy. Last but not least is Kristan Higgins Too Good To Be True, he isn't a cop, he is a convict (there is a story here) who was arrested by a cop. :-) But the book was so gosh darn good, I had to throw it in for good measure. With a name like yummy Callahan O'shea, he was beggin to be put in the lineup. ;-) That'll do for now. Keri

I'll second Keri's Knock Me Off My Feet suggestion. That's the first book that came to my mind.

thanks Rose! I couldn't think of the title for anything!

I think the woman in Cole's Gamble is a reporter; not sure what Cole is.think a professional gambler. I started this in ebook form but I have trouble getting into ebooks :-( so never got back to it. the other 3 I've re-read,esp Lyric's Cop and Calista's Men! whoo- whee!

I love Christie Craig!s he's so funny. some of mariane stillings' books have cops..heck maybe all of them! the one with teh female dr was my l east favorite but it was still pretty good. both can go towards silly/funny so don't know if that would bother you..it's my favorite! well that and hot!

Lisa Marie Rice's Port of Paradise is porn pretty hot! I don't think he has a miltary background either. though none of hers are actual soldiers but ex-military commando training.oh and Lacey Alexander has a shorty with a female cop one of her hot in the city books - the first I think. not very long though(the book that is!)

Um, porn pretty hot will do just fine! I picked up a couple of books yesterday from my local FOTL... Julie Garwood's Slow Burn and Susan Kearney's Kiss Me Deadly. Have any of you read those? I also have Sighs Matter by Marriane Stillings. Read the reviews on Amazon and one said basically the cover was the best part, lol.

I have a couple of ebooks and I have a hard time with those. My eyes start to hurt staring at the screen for so long.

LOL, Sherrie, i imagine they aren't. Some are arrogant aren't they? My SIL is a police officer and her husband is a former police officer but is now a firefighter/paramedic. Nice enough guy but he's so obsessed with his job he just cannot relax even on his days off. He doesn't get to spend alot of quality time with is wife and kids either. It also suprises me how much women throw themselves at officers or hit on them, even if their wives are present. That wouldn't sit well with me at all.

They are arrogant.  But I think you kind of have to have that mindset to do the job.  Same with mine being a dispatcher, in a way.  Not so much arrogant but....maybe Type A personality.  You wouldn't believe what people will say to you - a total stranger - on the phone!  Sometimes you have to get ugly right back at them to get them to listen.  And you can't take it personally.  That's the hardest part of it.

To Die For and Drop Dead Gorgeous by Linda Howard also features a hot cop. They are really funny too. Very strong independent heroine.

Dream Man by her also has a hot cop. Interesting story about a cop, a psychic and a serial killer.

LOL Sherri! I agree.  I also look at the local firefighters and military men(one of which I was married to for 12yrs), and while I totally support them I just can't picture any of them as a romance hero.

If you want a hot read, you might like Good Girl Gone Bad by Karin Tabke. Both the hero and heroine are police officers (she by the book, him not so much.) They have to go undercover in a strip club, and so she has to step outside her comfort zone and he learns she's not always a stuffed shirt. The characters were interesting, it was a quick read, and then there are two more in the police series, from what I understand.

The Linda Howard books mentioned are good.  (To Die For, Drop Dead Grogeous and Open Season)

There are a few that are not military but they work for "organizations"  and are ex-military - I don't know if that still hits too close to home.

Cherry Adair, Cindy Gerard and Tara  Janzen (Crazy Series)

I just picked this up but haven't read it yet....Long, Lean and Lethal by Lori O'Clare - Cop is a Woman and works with a special agent  is a man.
