What a good read. Bree Nicholls has lost her son and her husband to a plane crash. To make it worse, there are no bodies to recover and bury. Bree, who is part of a dog search and rescue service, makes it her goal to find the bodies of her family, wherever they might be in the hills and valleys of the wild Michigan Upper Peninsula. There's the park ranger who starts out feeling dog search and rescue is nothing more than a bother; there is the best friend who wants a relationship with the local widower; there's the pushy sister in law who tries to rule Bree's life; there's the mysterious woman who lives off in the forest; and there's a murder to solve. What else could you want in this first book of the series? It is a great set up for the next book in the series. I hope to be able to read it soon!
The first in Colleen Coble's Rock Harbor series is set in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The author's vivid descriptions of the area's beauty and wilderness together with an interesting story about a murder, a plane crash and a search and rescue team make this a recommended read. Started the second book in the series last night.
Excellent christian myrder mystery. The sleuth is a female, aided by the help of her loving dog and there is a romantic interest developed too. LOVE IT! Great, fun, lighthearted, agatha award worthy mystery.
This is the first book I have read by Colleen Coble and I plan to read more!! She has turned me into a fan! This was so fast moving and I really got attached to the characters. Very impressed! And the hints of scripture through out the book were not overbearing or preachy to me- it was just right
I loved this book and can hardly wait to start the next one.
"Colleen Coble hooked me on page one, then reeled me into her story with a cast of characters I can't wait to meet again, a plot so intricately woven that I marveled at its construction, and a mystery that kept me guessing till the final pages. WITHOUT A TRACE is a page-turning, eye-misting, don't-miss-it-masterpiece!" - Deborah Raney, Author of A Scarlet Cord and Beneath A Southern Sky
Colleen Coble is a new author for me. Mystery/suspense is not what I usually read, but I really enjoyed this book. And having the search and rescue dog just added to it.
Bree and Samson, her search and rescue companion, spend as much time as possible searching the nearby national reserve for her husband's downed plane. Nearly a year has passed, and Bree is still not able to let go of loosing her young son in the crash. Then a friend is found at the bottom of a cliff, but when Samson finds something that makes this seeming accident a murder, Bree turns her efforts toward solving this new mystery.
Some romantic relationships are introduced, and I look forward to reading the next book to see how love blooms.
I loved this story so much. I loved the fact that the character had a bond with her dog and he played an important part of the story. I loved the remote cabin scenes too. The twist was well written to keep me guessing until the end. Excellent story! I wish there was a sequel!
This is a great story, full of suspense, adventure, sorrow, happiness, light romance and a good message of what God can do in your life. Looking forward to the continuing series with Bree, Samson, Nicole and the rest of the family and friends of Rock Harbor.
The book moves very quickly, never a dull moment and very exciting.
Bree Nichols, who lives in a lighthouse in Upper Michigan, lost her husband and son in an airplane crash one year ago. Since no one had found the crash site, Bree and her rescue trained dog, Samson, are determined to find it and learn the truth about the crash. While on her searches, she meets Ranger Kade Matthews who is not very fond of rescue dogs invading his territory. The more she searches the more convinced there is more to the situation than just a missing plane with her husband and son.
This has been an intriguing easy to read murder mystery involving every day life characters in a small community with enough suspense to keep the pages turning. The "witch in the woods" Rachel March finally must give up her secrets.
While the mystery surrounding the plane are solved, there are enough loose ends in the character development to this novel to go get the second book in the series and read about the next saga in Rock Harbor.
A plane crash claimed the lives of her husband and son, but Bree Nichols and Samson, her search-and-rescue dog, won't rest until they've recovered the lost bodies--or combed every inch of the wilderness trying.
Meanwhile, the quiet town of Rock Harbor is disturbed by a violent crime. Bree soon discovers a personal stake in the solving of the murder, and in the course of her investigation, discovers links to her husband's plane crash. Could solving the crime bring her peace with her own loss? Or, more incredibly, reunite her family?
When a plane carrying Bree Nicholls's husband and son disappears, her life changes forever. Her relentless determination to find them starts an investigation that links their disappearance to a violent crime threatening to tear the peacful town of Rock Harbor apart.
Mystery fans will love this exciting new series from Best Seller Colleen Coble. Set in the untamed beauty of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the Rock Harbor Series is full of suspense and romance, drawing you into the life and operation of a canine search-and-rescue team as it unravels the secrets of an enchanting wilderness.
The difference is the dimensions of the book when it was reprinted. The dimensions on this book are 6X4 and the other book is larger 8X5. This makes a difference if you love the series and keep the books. And this is book # 1 in the Rock Harbor series.
