This book is mostly about the personalities and histories of the decorators. I was hoping for a book of mostly decorating tips and information, so I was disappointed. But if you are a fan of the show and want to see scrapbook-like information about the stars, you will probably really like it.
Although this was put together in 2003, and alot of things have changed with Trading Spaces, some good, some not so good, this is a fun and quick book. Find out about your "old favorites", Paige, Ty, Vern, & Kia; all who have left. And the good old team still there, Frank, Amy-Wynn, Doug, Edward, Hildi, Laurie and Genn. This book includes information on each staff member, the designers and carpenters talking about themselves and some decorating tips. Very fun stuff!!
This was fun to read. It is a neat insight into the "Trading Spaces" show. Although, of course, soon after I read it, they changed the format & got rid of Paige! There aren't really any decorating things to do, but you can get a lot of ideas from the pictures.
"Trading Spaces: Behind the Scenes" probably tells you more than you ever wanted to know about the designers and cast of Trading Spaces. It's a guilty pleasure and as such it is good, strangely addictive reading much like the television show on which it is based.
For the first time, The Trading Spaces crew - designers Frank, Laurie, Doug, Hildi, Gen, Vern, Edward, and Kia, plus carpenters Amy Qunn and Ty and host Paige - talk about themselves!
*Why Paige needs to shop 'til she drops
*What life-changing experience made Vern want to become a designer
*How Hildi keeps her balance while decorating in stiletto heels
*How Laurie really feels about ceiling fans
*What Frank does to freak out rude fans
*Insider decorating tips for every room of your home
*Rule-breaking interiors to pump up your decorating confidence
*Poster-size portraits of every cast member
*Hundreds of exclusive behind the scenes photos
Includes a few neat ideas, none of them new or revolutionary since this book is several years old. It is mostly a puff piece to promote the show, but has some gorgeous pics of remodels done on the show and some interesting background on the designers. I enjoyed it, but its just taking up space these days.
Bought the book because my family and I are avid fans of the show, and we weren't dissappointed! Great book profiling the designers and the personalities on the show, as well as facts about the show and a show guide for seasons 1,2, and 3...the glory days of the show :)
The book is primarily about the cast and secondarily about the production of the show. If you are interested in design tips, before and after shots from the show, and how-to, this book is NOT for you. However, if you are a fan of the cast, there's lots of great bio as well as poster-quality pictures big enough to pull out. Several nice pictures of Ty.
