Ok, I don't quite understand what just happened.  I noticed that I had a credit on my account.  I thought, "Great, one of my books arrived and the person clicked that they got it."  But I got to looking and realized that isn't what happened.  Someone that was sending a book I requested cancelled it.

But the message says that they already mailed it.  So am I supposed to send the book back to them after I get it?

If it's still in the En Route to Me tab, then the credit shouldn't have come from that transaction.  Have you checked the Transaction Archive to see if the title shows up there as a canceled transaction?  You can also look in your Credit Registry and your Club Communications to get a better idea of what's happened.   Was this book marked mailed a while ago?  It's possible that the book has been deemed "Lost" by the system.  Aside from that I'm having trouble coming up with a scenario that would put a credit back onto your account without the transaction having been completely canceled.

Just an FYI, if you are to send a book back to the Sender then they are supposed to refund your credit and provide a second credit to cover postage, though under no circumstances will you ever be required to send a book back.

Was it a WL book on autorequest?  It could be that one didn't get marked mailed and so it cancelled the transaction and refunded your credit. If another one was posted right away and went to you that could be the book that was mailed. Some people print and mark it mailed right away because they have limited computer access.

Ray, you do not need to send the book back if you receive it.  There is no obligation to do so, since this is not  a situation caused by something you did incorrectly.  If the sender asks you to send the book back, it is your decision whether or not you want to (but it is common in that situation for the sender to reimburse your postage costs or buddy you a credit as compensation).  Once you receive it, it is yours to do with as you please.  You can repost it to the system if you'd like.

I'm not sure how they canceled the transaction after they'd marked it mailed (usually marking it mailed causes the Cancel option to disappear) but maybe this is an indication that the book isn't coming to you after all.  I guess you'll need to wait and see.  But you aren't obligated to send the book back if it does arrive to you.

I checked, it said the transaction was cancelled by the sender today.  But they mailed it on Monday.  So I'm wondering what I am supposed to do with the book once it arrives.

A book that has been marked mailed cannot be cancelled. Was this an older transaction that may have passed the 26 days where it goes lost? If this is the case and the system did not order another one for you, then when the book arrives you go into your Transaction Archive and there should be a Was This Received button on that book. Make sure it is from the correct sender and clicking that will take you right into the same receiving process you normally go through.

Ok, more research has revealed that the cancelled transaction is a different person than the person who mailed me the book.  So where did this credit come from?

I just checked my regular email account and found out what happened.  Someone gave me a credit.  That was very nice of them.  I'm not sure why PBS didn't have that mentioned anywhere under "My Account", or maybe they did have mentioned and being new, I just haven't figured out where to look yet.

Anyway mystery solved.  Thanks for all your ideas.  And thank you to the person, a complete stranger, that gave me the credit.

Ray, if someone just gave you the credit it should be in your Credit Registry (on the main My Account page) that you were buddied a credit.  Also, in your Club Communications (also on the My Account page) it should have a message saying "A buddy has given you some credits!".

There's also an automatic email "A Buddy Has Give you some credits" that goes out unless you have it turned off in your settings.

I think it should tell you who buddied you the credit in your Credit Registry. There are many credit fairies around here :)
