Memoirs which involve travel are intriguing to me and as long as Kidd discussed Greece and France, I enjoyed this book immensely. But there was far too much introspection, philosophy and examination of her relationship with her daughter which interrupted the lovely trips. Now this may be exactly what another reader loves about the book, but I found Kidd going in circles and re-visiting topics endlessly.

Reading this book did make me re-read "The Secret Life of Bees", something I rarely do. I don't think I'm giving too much away to say that Kidd found inspiration for that novel during the travels of this memoir. It made me see her novel in a new light.

I don't get why this book is so popular. I agree with the previous poster that there is way too much introspection and talk about the author's feelings and ailments. I thought this was going to be more of a travel memoir, and was a little disappointed.
