By the author of Watership Down, this is the Civil War as seen through the eyes of Robert E. Lee's horse, Traveller. It's after the war, and he's telling one of the Lee's cats about his adventures during the war. Funny and sad.

A brave man and a horse, ride into battle together-each depending on each other. Robert E. Lee's gallant and beloved horse Traveller has become the stuff of legend. In this novel the writer makes us believe so deeplu in the rabbit sensibilities of Watership Down.
