Ok, another question.  I have this book, printed 1971 with a number at the bottom of the spine 553 . 04910 . 095 and absolutely no other numbers anywhere else.  I've tried entering the whole number as isbn -nope - dropping the 553 - nope- dropping the 095 - nope. It is a Bantam export edition.  It matches several of the offerings, publisher, publication date, down to the month but isn't an exact match.

Can I make a custom listing for this? Because of the Bantam Export notation, I don't know what the legalities are, and is that why the number doesn't show up in PBS?

Follow the site guidelines for posting without an ISBN.  Not hard to do.

Cozette:

I appreciate your encouragement that posting without isbn is easy.  I have done that already, and you are right, it is.  I think that besides the technicalities of non-isbn posting,  I was wondering if the fact that the book was published for outside the u.s. or br. comwlth would make it improper to post here.

thanks!

When you have older books like that, quite often that number is the ISBN ... you usualy have to add a  "0" at the beginning of it, though. And, then the "095" part of it is likely the price of the book, so you drop that part of it.

But, yes, you can post it without an ISBN too.

The SBN that is printed on your book is 553-04910-0. To convert an SBN to an ISBN, you prefix it with a zero as Sara said. You can post your book using the ISBN 0553049100, but since there's no listing in the database for that number, you'll have to enter all the info for it, the same as you would when posting without an ISBN.
