Ms. Rowell seems to write on the 'dark' side of this genre. Although I prefer a more light and fun book, her stories are always interesting and normally hold my interest. This story bordered more on the suspense/mystery than the romance. It is one of those stories that either (or both) the H or H have a secret. For some inane reason each refuse to confide it to the other even though it would help solve the mystery. I don't even think this secret when divulged would have solved the mystery more quickly. In fact, the waiting for the "divergence!" was tedious. I started 'skip, skip, skipping'. This hero was in one of the earlier books of this Harlequin series so it was good to see how he fared.
He trusts no one, but the Earl of Lonsdale finds himself drawn to Lady Diana Corby. Could she be his soul mate?
Diana finds herself linked to Vincent after her husband is murdered, and she will do anything to protect her children. But can she trust him?
From the back:

Though secrets and lies beset her at every turn, Diana Corby would do whatever she must to protect her children - evin if it meant allying herself with Lord Vincent. He migh ba a man wrapped in a mantle of mystery, but she couldn't turn down his offer of protection - or the shelter of his arms!
