At first I didn't like this series as much as the "Grant County" series, but it didn't take long for me to decide I did like this book a lot. As with the G C series, I have favorite characters I love & characters I don't care much for. I liked the story line and how it all fell together. I love this author!
Both of Karin Slaughter's Atlanta books I've read are dense with place and character. This introduction to Will Trent, which I read after the second book, was no less satisfying for being different, a different take on the same character as he is subjected to different social frictions, than was the first book I read --- the second Atlanta Will Trent novel. Wow, that is a horrible couple of sentences.
This book has one of the most shocking twists that I have ever encountered in any of the hundreds of mystery/thriller books that I have read. It unsettled me so much that I had to put the book down and sit quietly for a moment - thinking "did I just read what I think I read??" Then I went back and read the paragraphs again. Getting to know these characters, learning about their backgrounds and complexities - I couldn't put this book down. Great story; she builds the puzzle pieces at just the right speed from the first to the last page.
