I find it hard to believe that the Stephanie Laurens I know and love wrote this book. Several differences stand out to me. She usually has a strong secondary story (murder) in her storyline. This was a straightforward romance with a hiccup. I don't know why she even introduced a secondary romance; it was a nonentity. The characters were shallow; none of them were very interesting. Even the hero was a supercilious prig - I didn't like him or his sanctimonious, arrogant attitude.
Even her way with words was drab. She usually has a trio of effusive and florid descriptions - none of that in this book. Even the obligatory sex scene, which didn't appear until the end of the book, was bland.
And what's with the other author? It made the paperback very thick. The storyline was ok, but why did she have to piggyback with Laurens? It doesn't make sense.
Alright, editors, where is MY Stephanie Laurens, and what did you do with her?
