I just saw this on Jeri Westerson's facebook page.

Getting excited about the Tucson Festival of Books. Look at this line-up (though it is subject to changes)
Tucson Festival of Books, March 15 & 16, 2014 — University of Arizona campus. Author panels! Presentations! Saturday March 15: 10 am panel called “Dreaded Anachronism” with Rhys Bowen and Jacqueline Winspear. I’ll be signing at the Desert Sleuths Sisters in Crime booth #109-110 from Noon to 1... pm. And then at 2:30 pm I moderate a panel called “Big Crimes, Small Towns” with Bryan Gruley, Elizabeth Gunn, and Terry Shames. Sunday, March 16: I’ll be signing at the Tucson Sisters in Crime booth from 9 am to 11 am, then scooting over to a panel called “Brit Lit” with Deborah Crombie and Jean McKinlay at 11:30 am. From 2 pm to 3 pm, I’ll be signing at the Poisoned Pen Bookstore booth. And if you still can’t find me, I’ll probably be lolling about at the Mystery Writers of America booth. http://tucsonfestivalofbooks.org/

Yep -- I saw this -- was thinking "ROAD TRIP" -- I'm sure that Jeanne would be thrilled if we arrived en masse to crash with her -- right, Jeanne?  We'll bring the wine and chocolate and sleeping bags -- you provide floor space, coffee, sunshine, and a welcoming smile.

Oh my gosh, the temperature here is currently -2 and we got a foot of snow yesterday/last night. LIterally.  I'm in!

Just don't mention to Rhys Bowen how disappointed I am in her Molly Murphy series...

ETA: Deb, maybe you could pick me up in Charleston (WV, of course) and we could carpool!  We just can't drink the water until we're out of there. indecision

Vicky,

Me too. I think we live about 5 or 6 hours apart. Tucson sounds real good for all kinds of reasons.

LOL -- I was just about to post that we'd have to get bottled water for Vicky when I saw her edit.

What fun to be in a car for hours with Genie and Vicky...but we'll have to set ground rules. For example, (1) we share all chocolate, (2) we post bail for one another, (3) um...can't think of any more.

C'mon down! I intend to make it to this event this year. BTW, we are having one of our mildest winters since I've moved down here - just hope it lasts through March!!! I DO have two guest rooms (king and queen sized beds) so not everyone would have to sleep on the floor - lol!!!

Having another round of frigid weather I would definitely come, I could see my kid and best friend, and meet up with you ladies.  But there is no room in the budget for travel this year. ~pouts~  Maybe next year. cool

Well, none of you showed up for this event!!sad I went over there today and first off I sat in on the presentation re anachronisms with Jeri Westerson, Rhys Bowen and Jackie Winspear. Jeri was an absolute hoot - so entertaining! I chatted with her a bit and she asked me to say "hi" to you Letty - she thinks you're a dear (and so do I!). All of these women were great in their responses and how/why they do what they do, etc. Then I had to shoot right over to a presentation " A Conversation With Sharon Kay Penman". Basically a great interview with SKP that focused primarily on The King's Ransom - very enlightening. So, even though I have this book on kindle, I bought the HC so that SKP could sign it for me, which she did and we chatted a bit as well. How exciting to meet these two very talented women!!! Then I browsed around a bit - just might go back again tomorrow but wow! the people there. And the booths! So much going on.....yesheart

Donna - it was awesome! Couldn't believe that the area I drive by fairly frequently could host such an event. For sure, I will be back next year (if not tomorrow - lol!)

I  know, Genie, I know but how could I resist???? I told SKP that I had it on Kindle but couldn't see me reading that huge book in HC. She even agreed that the e-books are much easier to manage rather than "lugging that thing around" (her words). You probably are aware that initially she planned on Lionheart and A King's Ransom being just one book (sheesh!) but she was running short of time and the publishers were pushing her. She ended up with the two books and apparently a third will have to do with the holy city. Publishers want her to have that ready in a year but she seems skeptical about meeting that deadline!

Oh! and one other comment about that book I bought?.......I intended on buying a bunch of books so I took plenty of cash with me. Well, that was the only book I purchased so that's how I justified paying $35.00 for it!!!!! I don't think I've ever paid that much for a book before and probably never will again.

SKP is so delightful and down to earth - good sense of humor too! But when it comes to humor that Jeri Westerson is "something else"!

This is the card Jeri gave me and she was carrying a tote bag just like the one pictured:

Jeanne, Oh I am so glad that you got to go, Jeri is a sweetheart and I've been watching her and her husband Craig turn their yard in to a vineyard this spring via facebook. Craig keeps bees and has been brewing mead and making wine for years and they really went all out, worked their fingers to the bone to plant all those vines, she is a hard worker in all ways.  Sharon has met up with several ladies from this forum this book tour, I am so jealous, but happy you all got to meet her, I've only traded e-mails with her but her graciousness came through even that way.

Letty - I wish that I would have had more time to talk with Jeri but I had to run to the next presentation which was the one with SKP. Gads - there could have been hours between these two but nooooo.....My favorites were back to back!

Deb,

What is the schedule for book festivals in your part of the country?

Kelly -- Are you suggesting that I shouldn't be jealous because we have the National Book Festival or are you asking because you're going to join me this year?? If the former, (smiley face with tongue sticking out). If the latter, yay!!

For the past decade, the National Book Festival has been held in the Fall on the National Mall, but this year, due to new National Park Service rules, the Festival is being moved to the convention center AND is being shortened to one day -- so there are many of us who are disappointed.

Regardless, in answer to your question, the National Book Festival this year will be on Sat, August 30. Who wants to come? Guest room available. We'll provide clean linen, coffee, chocolate, wine, air conditioning, and cat hair. You provide good cheer, good conversation, and good company!

I think Linda & I need to definitely plan on attending this year. Good news is that we will stay w/ Jennifer, so your guest accommodations are available for someone else to use!!
