I was looking for a book and when I went to order the  person requests that you order multiplies.  I'm not trying to start trouble or point fingers.   Just want to know.  I cruised the shelf but don't see anything else I'm interested in.   If I order just the one can it be turned down?

yes but they'll lose their place in teh FIFO line.  They might PM you and request that you order more from them.  But you don't have to and it's against the site rules to require that you order extra books from their shelf.

And if they turn your request  down it'll move your request onto the next book owner.

If they turn you down, you might want to consider contacting TPTB just to let them know, because it is definitely against club policy. Not wanting to start anything...

I agree...they can technically cancel your order, but if they are specifying that you MUST order more than one book for them to accept the request, I would notify The Powers. If they want to operate that way, they really should be doing Box of Books instead.

Technically they are breaking the Term of Use by not sending a book their have listed when its requested.

For me, as long as there are other copes available, I'd say no skin off my nose if they cancel.  They are the ones who lose their place in the FIFO line and have to keep reposting the books. Once they've cancelled too many (and the just re-post the book), the Team may come asking what's going on. I definitely would NOT order any other books because that would just reward their bad behavior.

What they already said, requiring multiples is in violation of PBS membership Terms of Use.

Janice, when you placed the order, did a screen come up that asked if you'd like to order additional books from the member...... or did the member say something specifically?

I remember being a little confused the first time I ordered a book and the system asked me to visit the sending member's bookshelf to order more.

Kath,

No not on the order screen.  In the space above the books not sure what thats called.   It states something to the effect of please order in mulitples preferred..

I don't remember exact wording.   It just made me choose not to order from that shelf.  I'm not in any hurry I'll wait a bit and hopefully that one will go and the next persons to move into fifo space won't have any stipulations.  I guess thats sort of like reverse requestor conditions.  We could call it sender conditions.

No worries Janice, Kath has a point.  IIRC the top of that screen contains a boxed message from PBS that reminds you that 'ordering multiples from other members allows them to save money on mailing costs'.  That window is not from the other member, nor does it require multiples....just an idea enlightened

I sometimes browse the other members bookshelf, if they only have a page or two of books.  If their bookshelf is 10 pages long...life's too short (and all that).

That sounds like they posted the suggestion in the "bookshelf header".  Which is allowed as long as they do not turn down your request for not being a multiple.

That is the area that many folk offer deals.  And this sounds like it wasn't a deal.
