Has anyone read this book?  I am not into vampires but have heard this series is supposed to really be good?

It was a really quick read for me, not real meaty, but enjoyable enough.  I read the second one and strted the third but lost interest and am finished with it.

I recently started Twilight and am enjoying it, although I don't find it compelling as some do.  The 18-20 year olds at work adore it.

It's definitely a young adult read! It's value lies in the fact that it is appealling to young people who are likely to keep reading.

Just finished Twilight and LOVED it. I had picked it up and put it down twenty times in bookstores and a friend finally lent me Twilight. It was well worth it for me! I really wish someone had New Moon posted so I don't have to buy it.

I read this book and LOVED it!  I ran right out and bought the rest of the series.  This is not normally my genre of books I like to read, but I am glad that I read it!  Give it a read, you won't be sorry

You mean it makes a difference that I am an old person and I probably won't enjoy it like  a young one would? lol

Jody, there's just some subject matter in the book that gets a wee bit tiresome...she goes on a lot about how attractive Edward is etc... also one of my criticisms of the series is that the main character is not a strong female character. She immediately goes on about how she wants to become a vampire, because "he's not going to grow old and I am".. but she's young and she worries about things that young girls worry about.  Being 47, sometimes it's hard not to want to slap her a little! lol

I found myself almost skimming the third book, that's why I put it down, I wasn't really reading, and I read the other two so fast I may as well have been skimming them too.

With all that said, I think it's a great series and I love putting the books on hold at work for people. I sing their (ther series) praises because I think they are light enough not to scare the bejezuz out of kids(teens/young adults) and still be a vampire series.

Try the first one to see if you like it!

I'm a "young person" who didn't like the book.  I read it to please my sister who loved it (we normally enjoy the same things) but I found the main characters totally annoying & unbelievable and the romance ridiculous, plus the hero seemed, IMO, to treat the heroine like crap, and she never stood up for herself.  But I know a lot of people love the series, so you might want to give it a try.

I'm currently reading it and while it's been interesting, it just got really good (toward the end).  SO I"m looking forward to seeing how this and the rest of the series plays out.

he never stood up for herself

This is part of my complaint about the main character. I don't like stories where women are always being "rescued" ...but some people like the "knight in shining armor" image...

I think this is a great series for younger girls- not too scary, and romantic without any sex.

I enjoyed The Host so I put Twilight on my WL after that.  I have no idea what to expect, but I don't mind the occasional YA book in general (I am 26, if that matters).

If I'm not mistaken The Host is more of an adult read?  It's on my TBR list.

Yes, it was nice to have a little romance in Twilight without gratuitous sex scenes. Perfect for YA or teen readers.

Yes, The Host was definitely for adults, but I liked Meyer's writing style enough to give the YA stuff a try.

There was a some romance involved, but I don't think there were any real sex scenes in The Host either.

The series is a fun light read.  Although I wouldn't have been upset if the series ended with book three which was my favorite.  Book four was a let down for me.

I just finished Twilight and am almost finished with New Moon. I loved Twilight and am not in the 18-20 range. Give it a shot. I read Twilight in 3 days and couldnt put it down. It moved immediately to the top of my list of best books I've ever read. It's captivating and a great story. I disagree with those who say that they are "light" books. It really pulls on your emotions if you are a romantic. I thought it was awesome that they would both give up everything for each other.

I ABSOLUTELY loved this series. I have read all 4 and actually just finished them last night! I suggest anyone to read these books...anywhere from maybe age 16 to 100! They will make you laugh and cry! You will not regret reading them. I PROMISE!

I do have to say that having finished "Twilight" that I have to ammend my previous statement that I was not compelled by the book. When I hit the 2/3 mark in the book, I couldn't wait until my next reading. I keep these books at work and read them during my lunch hour. I'm very much looking forward to starting the next one.

I'm another young person who doesn't like this series.

The Host is way too long (edit, please!) but much better than the Twilight books.

I read 'Twilight' and I was done with the series after that.  I found the writing rambling and quite amatuer (if I had to hear how attractive Edward was one more time I believe I was going to bash my head in).  The main female character was such a weak character that I detested her right away as well.  That all being said I would say the series (as a whole) is an easy read (when I recall book 1).

My coworker is LOVING Twilight!  Ya know what she loves about it? A cute vampire! It is so her (she's 24)!  I'm so happy she's enjoying it, I loaned her my copy of it and I'm bringing her New Moon tomorrow.  I've been trying to get her to start it for a while now! I'm withholding any criticism I have of the series, I don't want to put a damper on her joy. She was actually grinning about it!  She agreed with what I said about it being a fast read.

I'll post both copies here when she's done.

I've read them all. I thought they were pretty good, but Laurell K. Hamilton's vampire series (before all the sex)  is better.

I have read every vampire book that I could get my grubbie little hands on, and I did enjoy Twilight. When I first started reading it I didn't have to much hope for it but I was suprised.  This is the fist YA book that I have ever read but it has inspired me to read more. I just started the Vampire Academy books by Richelle Mead and The House Of Night Novels  by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast which are also YA novels and I am enjoying both. So give it a try you may enjoy them
