Bizarre is the word that best describes Dr. Richard Sharpe. A genius, sociopath, and abusive husband, he became a successful dermatologist and millionaire. His obsession to control his long-suffering wife and children ultimately led to murder. This book again prooves that truth is indeed stranger than fiction.
A decent true-crime. Hard to believe intelligent, ambitious people would live in such a demented and depressing marriage. But, the victim stayed with this nut case through 27 years. Very sad. Well reported and a quick read.
Too close to home! Having lived in Gloucester for the past 33 years, I'm not sure why I chose to relive this terrible tragedy. Perhaps it was because I am familiar with many of the places and some of people mentioned in the book. I never met Richard Sharpe but onced transported patients to his East Gloucester practice. I cannot say I enjoyed reading this book, yet I could not put it down.
The book is even more intriguing than the courtroom coverage. What a strange and twisted man. A true crime must read!
He had a successful career, a selfless wife, three loving children and a secret that tore apart his picture-perfect world. Read the true story of Dr. Richard Sharpe and his society wife Karen.
This was a very good book but sad. The doctor was a freak and his wife didn't deserve the abuse she took over several years of marriage until he finally killed her. It is a little creepy thinking about that doctor treating patients surgically when while hooked on illicit drugs.
Excellent true crime story with little court drama.
A 'rags to riches' story? It could have been. But Richard Sharpe turned it all in to a horrific nightmare!!!
Richard Sharpe thought he could do no wrong...it seemed everything he touched turned to gold...at least in the business realm. Sharpe abused his wife and children, hid his transvestite lifestyle, and thought he could get away with murder. He is a sick, sick person...not that he was 'insane' or not knowing what he did. He knew exactly what he was doing and planned everything out to minute detail right up to the murder of his wife...a murder he thought he'd get away with!
