Today I went to the PO to mail 7 BOB packages.  I make sure I go after 9:30 because I've found that is when the morning rush slows down.  I live in a small town, so it is never really busy.  Anyway as the guy was scanning all my packages and putting postage on them, he told me about Click N Ship.   He said it has "free" DC.  I come home and check it out and unless I'm missing something, you cannot use it for media mail.  I really think he just  didn't want to wait on me.  I go to the PO everyday anyway so it is not like it's going to save me a trip.  I pick up the mail from our PO where I work, so I go there everyday.  I started using PBS Postage for my regular books going out.  I'm getting a scale tomorrow.  I don't know if our PO has a postage machine or not.  If they do, should I just start weighing my own packages and printing there??

You're right about Click N Ship, Nicole. Media mail isn't an option for that service.

You can find the nearest APC on the USPS. com website.

Go to usps.com and click on 'locate a post office'. It will take you to the page where you can choose 'automated postal centers' in a drop-down menu for places you are trying to locate. It will list APCs within 100 miles of the zip code you use.

Thanks for the info.  I looked on the USPS site and the nearest APC to me is 40 minutes away.  I guess my PO is just going to have to deal w ith me!!! :-)

The postmaster waited on me today.  He is so nice.  I asked him about putting my PBS postage books in the box.  He said that if I'm not in a hurry that they would be processed faster if I bring them in and hand them to them.  Not a problem since I'm going to the PO box anyway.  He was laughing at me when I rang the bell for a package that wouldn't fit in our PO box because he had just waited on me for postage for my books.  He said "You're making me earn my money today!!!!"  The guy that waited on me yesterday must have been having a bad day.

With Click N Ship you can only do Priority Mail or Express Mail, no other classes.

To be fair, electronic DC is free if you buy Priority or Express mail postage, which is all Clik-N-Ship offers. He may not have known about no Media Mail on C-N-S. When PBS first started offering e-DC my post office didn't see any reason to scan it because as far as they knew, all e-DC was free. Once I explained that they could collect an extra $0.18 from me if they scanned it, they had no problem. My point is that they didn't know until someone told them.

If it were me, next time he waited on me, I'd thank him for trying to save me some money and tell him "unfortunately, I looked and I can't do Media Mail that way - only Priority or Express". I'd thank him again, too. That way he's reinforced for thinking of the customer and also has the right info. Again, that's just me.
