I finally did create a USPS.com account. I'm editing this for clarity (I hope) First Class is 13 ounces or under? A PO clerk told me a padded envelope package I had weighed 12.9 ounces. However, I THINK the automated machine indicated 1 pound, 12.9 ounces, could be wrong. I have never yet bought postage online. I had initially set up the account to get free priority mail bubble mailers. I will be using it tomorrow to save money on priority mail flat rate. First question is, when I did both the 12.9 ounces and also 1lb 12 ounces, there was no first class rate choice. I am thinking the system rounded the 12.9 to 13?

Second question is when I entered in 8 ounces (as a true guess when I make this package smaller and lighter) it said something like first class $3.54. No online price available. Does that mean if a package did weight 8 ounces it would not be cheaper to buy the postage online? I'm trying to understand how usps.com works :)

Last question, will my email address and phone # print out on the mailing label?

Thanks so very much!

1.  You can only print Priority Mail and Priority Express Mail at usps.com.  To print other rates you have to use a different provider such as Paypal, or here at Paperback Swap.

2.  You can't print First Class postage at usps.com, you have to use a different provider (as in #1 above).

3.  Your email and phone number won't print on the mailing label.

Thank you so much Diane! I wonder why the clerk told me I could do first class online? Oh well. I appreciate the #3 info, too. :)

Because you can print it online, just not at USPS.com. Log in to PayPal then type in PayPal.com/shipnow and you can ship first class to anyone.
